Ok...I just bought an HP dv9500t specs as listed:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0ghz
Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS
2gb RAM
2x 100gb 7200rpm SATA HDD
17.0" WSXGA+ Hi-Def Widescreen w/ res of 1680x1050
Window Vista Home Premium
Well I bought it under the impression that it would handle the latest games, because I do game regularly and wanted a portable solution for college. But the thing wont even run Half Life 2 Death Match smoothly. So what can I do to fix this problem?
Also I have been frequented by a BSOD since I installed the G7 drivers and the Windows instan repair isnt finding a problem.
Any input to either of these problems would be greatly appreciated

if you hadd issue since install mouse download newest software from logitech for you mouse also check hp for video drivers update for card
-
I have downloaded the newest update from Logitech...since the disc was for Windows XP...because when it first happened I wiped the driver off the pc then reinstalled the newest one again...and it has happened since..
As for the video driver I'm pretty sure that it is the most recent edition driver.
And if it has any relavance I'm running a 17" Lian Li Cooler... -

You're damn right you have a problem. You bought a laptop with a mediocre graphics card that doesn't handle any of the latest games at full resolution. You should have done your homework before forking over the cash. A laptop is a lot of money, why the heck did you buy one without first determining if it meets your needs?
You're only choice is to play games at 800x600. Either that, or throw the dv9500t in the trash and go buy a gaming laptop instead. -
I don't get you sometimes, Lupin... You OWN a 9500 configured quite similarly to the one in question, yet you SLAM it like this???
What are you getting at?
And by the way, won't the 8600GT be available for laptops soon (or maybe it is already?)
If that's the case, couldn't AMDboy89 just replace the video card with a GT version? I know that's an added expense (and in which case he paid extra for a card he could have saved money not getting) -- BUT STILL...
I really haven't researched this, so I don't KNOW -- I KNOW the GT is available for desktop, but don't know about laptop.
At any rate, if that's what it takes, that might be what you need to do, AMDboy89, as you already have so much money in the system, and if Lupin's right, there's nothing really wrong with the system, otherwise.

oh no not with 95%+ of the laptops out there, graphic cards aren't upgradable
your stuck with what you buy

Not slamming it, I do own one and I think it's a great laptop for the money - but I don't play any recent games on it.
What I'm getting at is that the 8600m-GS simply doesn't play any recent games at full resolution. Even Doom3 which is a few years old now is a slideshow at 12-15 fps. The dv9500t is NOT a gam3r laptop. HP doesn't advertise it as such either - they advertise it as a "multimedia" laptop.
AMDboy89 is a self-professed gam3r and looking to play recent 3D games. It is rather foolish to spend thousands of dollars on a product without first determining if it meets your needs. My point was just that he should have done his homework and bought a laptop that meets his needs.
The graphics board in the dv9500t is NOT upgradeable. The only way he can improve his 3D graphics performance is to dump the dv9500t and buy a new laptop. That's his only option for better performance in recent games. -
You guys are telling me that my 7600 in my notebook which can play doom3, fear, and half life with out a problem is better then his 8600? That sounds like a hardware problem and he should rma it.
-
Yea it does. My 7600 on the DV6000T handles most games extremely well. I have only ran into problems with Spider-man 3.
But the 9500 isn't a gaming laptop, so that us possibly a problem. Still, it sounds more like a hardware problem. -

<>sigh<> you know what they say about ass-uming...
How, pray tell, did you determine his problem to be hardware related? How do you know it's not a firmware or BIOS issue? Or driver related? Please... have at least half a clue about the problem before you suggest a solution.
What resolution are you playing those games at? Is it 1680x1050? No? Well then your comparison is meaningless.
A 7600 cannot play doom3, fear, and half life with any sort of decent frame rate @ 1680x1050. Neither can an 8600. -
You know what, I'm agree with JeffAHayes. I also own a dv9500t it runs 2.2ghz proc, 2gb ram and the 8600gs 256 video card. i'm not a gamer (at least not for pc) but i satrted playing Company of Heroes and it runs great!! When i test it using the game standard config, it says that my system is "average". That's maybe nothing for hardcore gameres, but my friend has Dell 1520 with the 8600GT and i don't notice the difference. Maybe that's because i don't go for gaming a lot, but it works fine... Just my opinion!!

If I put up the impression that I'm an avid gamer I'm not but I do enjoy gaming on occasion. And from everything I read the 8600M GS could handle some newer games at medium settings and should have no problem with most the older...I just want to be able to use thid thing to its full potential.
Also I'm not trying to pump those graphics out at the full res of 1680x1050.
And from most the reviews I've read it gets round a 2045 score for 3dmark 06...and I'm getting a score near that but it wont run Deathmatch a game that has it's age, well at any setting...now I have been told by some very computer knowledgable ppl that the problem is being caused by either Vista or a bad driver...but I have tried many different drivers for it.
Now I have a desktop with a 3200 Barton, 1gb ram and a 5900xt and it runs deathmatch very smoothly.
And I have also read the the 8600MGS is comparabvle to the 7600...is this true? -
The 8600m GS has been out as long as the 8600m GT. They debuted at the same time.
The 8600m GS should play HL2 just fine, maybe not at 1680x1050, but definitely at 1200x800. It's not as powerful as say a Go 7950, but in no way is the 8600m GS a poor card. I definitely agree with Velocity that if Amdboy's card can't run HL2 at respectable settings, he should get HP to replace it as there is a hardware problem in his machine. You can see screenshots of what the 8600m GS is capable of here. -
Well...I reinstalled windows and it seems to be playing HL2DM smoothly with and average 115-150 fps...i guess it was just a driver issue...

Oh? So it wasn't a hardware issue? It wasn't defective hardware as all the "experts" suggested? Surprise surprise.
Glad to hear you got it sorted out.
I have a problem
