my core 2 duo is acting odd.
when i plug in the cord the speed goes down to 1ghz. when i unplug and run on batteries it goes up to 1.66ghz
this happens with portable/laptop, maximize battery, and always on power schemes

and on minimal power management then it goes to 1ghz on battery and a/c power

what's going on here?

im using cpu-z to read the cpu speeds

Put it to always on and get RMclock to manage your cpu throttling. While on it, I suggest you undervolt it too
