Anything to worry about?
Yeah it's an HP! XFD

That build looks similar to mine (see my sig),
I have had the laptop for about 2 weeks. So far, I haven't had any real problems. A few minor things here and there, but nothing major.
Here are a list of the things that come to mind:
-Volume button/slide pad can act a little funky at times
-The keyboard seems to be higher on the left than on the right (you can barely see this. You have to look closely, and it is not a big deal. Doesn't really affect it at all)
-Attracts fingerprints
-A little on the large side
-Infinity screen can get dust trapped inside of it (so be careful!)
Other than those things, I haven't had very many problems at all with the laptop. It is my first "new" laptop, and I have to say I have been loving it. Almost everything about it is perfect, except for the few minor things that I have mentioned. However, all of these are very minor and do not really cause any problems.
All in all, I think you will be pretty happy!
Hope this helps,
Eric -
That's not good, is it a design defect? Is HP aware of the problem?

There was a previous thread on the infinity display here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=292740&highlight=infinity+display
Rodknee could you run 3dmark05 and 06 on your laptop? I'm very curious to know how the radeon 4530 stacks up. There are no benchmarks listed for it yet on notebookcheck http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html -
Thanks for the link mate. After careful reading I may need to do a bit more research. I plan on canceling my order Monday morning. I read thru the thread and only one person complained about dust trapped on the screen. Everyone else said the Infinity screen was easier to clean and had no issues with dust.
Quote:
"However, after using both screens side-by-side for a fairly decent duration I would honestly choose the Infinity Display. I get aggravated when dust gets caught between the LCD bezel and the LCD panel itself. With the Infinity Display you won't have to worry about dust or any buildups. You can easily clean it without "potentially" damaging the screen. The glare isn't all that bad, how likely are you to shine a light directly into your monitor? The distortion is barely noticeable (camera provokes the distortion)."
My main concern is the dull and washed out look of the colors on the screen. I was looking at the HDX18t and it also has an Infinity display but it has the best overall value. On the other hand the newly released dv6t and dv7t can be ordered without the Infinity display. The dv7t I ordered has the Infinity Screen. My dilemma is that both the dv6t and dv7t have bloody awful resolutions whereas the HDX18t has a full HD resolution of 1920x1080p. That is a ridiculously good resolution for such a large screen.
Decisions, decisions. I'm also looking at the Dell Studio XPS 16 with the premium screen but it pales in value to the HDX18t. That is the best value now with $450 off the sticker price. -
Oh right, I didn't notice you were just in the ordering stage. There is a thread devoted to the infinity display dust here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=306513&highlight=dust+infinity+display
To be honest I would avoid the infinity display due to the excessive reflection issues. My dv5 has the standard brightview display without infinity panel and it's already reflective enough. (I'd pay more to avoid the infinity display heh!) -
that hp screen has 30 ms response time?
i decided to return the dv7t after 30 mins of playing on it.
also that ridiculous "subwoofer". hp dont even have guts to post my review for dv7t on their website. -

I didn't mean to scare you away from the Infinity Display. I have one, and so far I am very happy with it. As far as I know, I only have 1 piece of dust stuck in the screen, and it is barely noticeable. You have to look pretty hard to find it. In fact, sometimes I forget where it is!
As far as the dull colors go, I haven't really noticed that at all. The screen looks really, really nice, even WITH the Infinity Screen. But then again, that is personal preference. I don't think I have seen one without the screen, so I don't have anything to compare it to. If I have, it clearly wasn't a big enough difference to make a big deal about. But once again, that is just my personal opinion.
The Infinity is very nice, but it does have a heck of a glare. However, I can deal with it, and it makes the screen (and the laptop) look awesome.
Sorry for the confusion!

Can I ask why you decided to return it? Was it just because of the screen? Or were there other issues? -
You have proof because 16ms is bad enough. I have a 6 year old Viewsonic flat panel that has 16ms refresh rate and it smears and ghost when images move on the screen. It's most noticeable playing games.
I'm officially scared off from buying this machine thanks for the new link Grant. I would like to add that I have purchased three Dell laptops with a glossy screen and have had no issues with any of them. What a bummer as the HDX18t has an awesome configuration and price point. -
I have to point out that is almost certainly false. Nobody but nobody is going to manufacture a media laptop screen in today’s day and age with an archaic 30ms response time... I would wager the response time would be in the vicinity of 8ms. 30ms? No way...
My last two laptops have also had glossy screens which I enjoyed and have no problem with, but when you buy something that you plan to keep and enjoy for a while it makes little sense to pay extra for additional reflection and what seems a dust trapping liability. Houses have windows and windows = reflection. The standard place you use your laptop you can set up to minimise reflection but if you want to take it out and about at some stage you may have reflection issues. Even if it's only a teensy bit of additional inconvenience it's sure not something I would pay extra for. -
I play games on my DV7T and I haven't noticed any delayed responses. I doubt it's 30ms lol.
IF you're holding back due to a dust particle in the bezel, you're crazy. One tiny little dust particle isn't going to impair the screen's ability to provide vivid images. I think the people who posted about it have OCD lol.
ALSO! You're only reading the reviews of maybe a hundred people who bought a DV7T. What about the hundreds of thousands of other people? I'm very satisfied with my DV7T. I apologize if the images in my infinity review makes the comparison bad. I've actually used both laptops side by side and there is NO color distortion. Obviously, if you have a bright light, it will make the infinity display look faded due to the slight glare.
Hope that helps! -

I agree with you on the games. I have played games on this, and they work perfectly.
In regards to the dust in the display, I just thought that I would point it out. I don't really have any problem with it.
And no, I don't have OCD.
I don't have OCD.
I don't have OCD.
^Finally got it right^

since here is some discussion about the dust b/w the screen, please look at this, this spot is pretty darn big, and I do have a couple more just above this one...gets annoying when watching a movie and if the face by any chance passes over this, it just looks like a huge mole...lets say Kate Beckinsale in Underworld, with a mole...get the pic????
Don't misunderstand me, I love the lil beast, but this is just unnacceptable for a laptop this good. -

yeah - a lot to worry about with your dv7t. like how you're gonna keep haters from stealing such a sweet machine because they're gona be jealous.
-
i have the HP in my sig and i absolutely love it! no problems whatsoever... i couldn;t be any happier...
-
Thanks for all the info but it's a little too late now because the order was canceled on Monday. I'll keep all this info in mind. I'm now waiting for the $250 coupon to reappear.
I now have my eyes on the HDX18t. It appears to be a much better bang for the buck deal.
-
How much will the HDX18t cost you????
-
About $200-300 more with a $250 off coupon. So that's what i'm waiting for.
-
We are then talking about $1300, thats nice...I was going to pitch a sager np8662, but nevermind....
-
Actually it would be $1124.99 with a backlit keyboard and Wireless/Bluetooth card. That's if the $250 off coupon comes back.
-
Yeah...sorry...I did not count the coupon...but sweet laptop!!!!
I just bought a dv7t, anything to worry about?
