Hello there!
I'm thinking of buying a mid 2017 15" omen. Since the laptop is mostly plastic I was wondering wht the build quality is like. I am also wondering what the thermals are like. I'm am considering the HP Omen as for the price (in my country at least) I'm getting amazing specs.
For 1380€ I'm getting the 120Hz Display, GTX 1060 (is it maxq?), 8gb Ram and the i7 alongisde a 256 SSD.
My seond option is the Dell Inspiron 7577 ( https://www.mimovrste.com/gaming-pr...8gbssd256gb156fhdgtx1060w10home-5397184054239) with a GTX 1060 and an i5.
Specs wise the Omen seems like a much better deal ofc but I'm afriad the thermals and build quality won't be that good as I plan on not getting any other computer for the next 4-6 years. And what good will the amazing components do if the chassy ends up getting damaged or if I can fry an egg on the laptop. I travel every week from the town where I study to the my hometown, from collage to my apartment and I need my computer in all of those places so I am really split regarding this.
From the reviews I've read the Insipron seems to have a better build quality but I want to know what you guys think as I really am split here. I'm afriad the omen might be a bit "too good" for it's price as I was using a Y520 Lenovo until i got hit by it's hardware problem of a keyboard that has buttons that stop working and I decided that I'll put in some extra cash to get a laptop with a better build something that will last me yet here I am, picking two laptops in the mid 1300€ range with one being clearly superior specs wise.
I am very split here and I'd love to here other opinions.

Hello!
I had the same dilemma - couldn't choose between the two, HP looked better on paper, but was dubious about the build. I now have both (ordered them over black friday and will return one of them). First impressions, they're different beasts. I prefer the look (slightly) of the Dell its a bit more sober, also the Dell has white backlighting on keys vs red on the HP, but the HP keyboard is nicer to type on. Softer action and larger keys. The trackpad has a horrible texture on the Dell for vertical movements, but the HP trackpad needed some tweaks to make it useable. The screen on the HP is miles better to my eye. Brighter, more colour accurate, much purer whites, slightly less backlight bleed (both have it, but it's not a deal breaker on either).
I haven't measured temps yet, still installing a bunch of stuff, but initial impressions are that neither get burning hot (quick blast on Witcher 3) and the fans are quieter on the HP. GSync on the HP made a notable difference to the experience, but the Dell was pushing out a very slightly higher framerate. Of the two, the HP was to my mind a much better experience. Better colour, brightness and smoothness.
Overall, from what I experienced in one afternoon, the HP is the winner at the moment. I just wish it had the Dell chassis and white backlighting for the keyboard. Neither are bad - they both feel well built. If you want any specifics, give me a shout. -
I have a 7577 and wish I had gone with the omen

Any specific reason? Only had both for a few hours and I gotta say, it's the Omen I keep picking up.

Ok, more observations (not sure this is actually helpful to anyone), The Dell is throttling downloads to 5mbps and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Checked power settings and all sorts and there's nothing. After a fresh boot, it'll start out at over 50, then slowly drop and stick under 5. The HP is steady at 50. The Dell runs cooler, but louder, marginally. Switching back and forth between the two, playing with both on lap, the HP is hotter, but both are completely tolerable in my mind - neither burn my lap. The game looks much more vibrant and runs a bit more smoothly on the Omen. Right now I just wish I could shove all the internals of the Omen into the case of the Dell. I just prefer the Dell's build....
Both have 256gb ssd's as boot and 1tb data drives. The Dell is 5400rpm the HP 7200rpm. I have Steam installed on the data drive on both and the Omen is faster to boot, but there's not a great deal in it. There's not a lot of info on either laptop that I can find on the web, so keen to hear what other owners think. -
I love my HP omen the temp on the cpu side has gone to 90c under hard load and long playing time but stays rock solid at 90c the gpu is around 70c 75c tops .I do plan to repast it as the cooling looks to be good but needs better past for sure . good luck I vote HP

I actually ended up returning both of them. Wasn’t until I used them properly in a dark room that I noticed horrible backlight bleed on both - once I’d seen it couldn’t “unsee” it. Really disappointed.
I need help regarding Omen 15 build/thermal quality
