Hi, I'm having a problem with my HP dv5000. Lately when I turn the computer on, or when the computer gets out of standby, the screen won't display right. The colors are there, but all that you can see are fuzzy lines on a solid colored background that move around when I move the cursor. Usually if I force my computer off and start it back up everything goes back to normal, but the last time took me about ten restarts, each time starting out with a black screen with white lines (instead of the white hp logo). What's causing this? Is something loose or something wrong with my video card? I asked this earlier, but I never got a response. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried updating your graphic drivers? If you have XP or vista then use the guide in the sticky in the gaming section of the forum to update your video card drivers

All right, I downloaded and installed the newest driver (although I think it is the same version I already had) and I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Well, all was going good, but then after restarting, it happened again. I noticed that if I tap or apply a little pressure to the area above the keyboard when I turn the computer on, the screen comes on normally. That's leading me to think that the wiring inside is loose. Any thoughts? Should I attempt to fix it or take it in to get looked at?

Sorry to bump this, but my screen is just getting worse. It can start fine, but then even the slightest bump or tap on the screen blanks it out to colors and patterns. I talked to HP, but they just had me do busy work that didn't help at all. They are sending me a box to ship my notebook to them for repairs. Just out of curiousity, what is wrong with my screen--is it a loose connection, or is the LCD going bad?

im guessing is a loose connection of some sort. because u said that when you touch the area above the keyboard everything goes back to normal.

Yeah usually. But it doesn't go back to normal until I restart. Today it was extra nice and went out on its own. Luckily I have a spare monitor to use temporarily. Since I am still under warranty, HP offered to repair it for free, and is sending me a box to ship it to them. I was hoping that they would have an authorized local repair shop, but oh well I'll be without a computer for some time. But at least it'll get fixed and for free.
I need help with my notebook's screen
