There should be a partition on the hard drive which you can use to recover the laptop as long as you havent deleted it or altered the mbr. This process can usually be started when the laptop boots(usually an F11 key but this can vary). Alternatively, HP includes a program on the system which allows you to burn a recovery disc. Burn the disc and then use it to restore the system. BTW, if you havent done this I suggest you do so before trying to restore the system. Otherwise you would have to call HP and order restore DVD's for a price.

Not the system restore but to put the whole thing back to factory settings. Do you know how to do it in the start up screen?

I believe you press f11 on startup.
