Several models that share a common base platform use the same BIOS. dv2500, dv2600 and dv2700 are basically the same computer, only newer processors, larger HD sizes and such. If you download and run the BIOS-file in the link above you will see in the first read-me screen that that update covers serveral different models including the Compaq V3000 range.

And secondly, HP have built in security measures in their BIOS-flashing software. You will not be able to flash a BIOS into a model not supported by that BIOS.

Stick to Vista. Downgrade to XP only if you desperately want Sleepless nights! You cannot install XP anymore on the new dv2000 series laptops.

If you definitely ARE going to install XP on that model, read this post and maybe ask the genteman here some questions - there are links to drivers and such:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=221276

Otherwise - I would have to agree to stick to Vista - or at least wait until SP1 comes out to see if you like it any better. I don't know why so many people are going back to XP - I think Vista is prettier.

Thank you for confirming this ... I thought so, but I wasn't sure.

Good point Jong81. I too feel the same. And besides I have had so many issues(BSODs and crashes every now and then) that I am pissed with XP. Vista as of till now seems to be a lot more stable and pretty at the same time!

Umm, I'm here to say XP will work on the DV2700T. I still have some drivers to install, but its running....

That would be quite the statement to make, if anyone were arguing that. No one said XP wouldn't run on the 2700. We just said it's sometimes a pain in the butt to get it to work right.

No, there are no less than three threads where the last post states something to the effect of Windows XP will not run on a dv2700t.

Yeah my post was based on that. But I would still stand by the fact that pulling this feat of downgrading definitely makes you eligible for a bravery award!

Whatever - I'm over it. It can be done, but it's a pain in the butt - that's the point. Vista is fine as far as I'm concerned. It's a personal preference.

Greetings - I followed the link for BIOS F.13 and noticed its for AMD processors only. Quasi - did you use F.13 with an AMD or Intel based 2700??

As directed by muchyman or someone, the BIOS I obtained was from the dv2699en support site. The link i downloaded under previous versions for vista did not say anything about being for AMD or Intel. Now, if you goto the dv2700t support site and look for a BIOS update, you might find F14, not F13, and it has two listed, and one says for AMD procs. You want the F13 one from the dv2699t site. Let me know if you notice the fan running all the time after the downgrade. It didnt concern me, but it did seem like something new.

EDIT: Sorry, just realized I was stating the obvious for you. :) Great to hear that your cross-flash downgrade worked out OK!

hi, DONT PUT THAT BIOS!!!! I PUT F.13 INTO MY LAPTOP and it crashed totally.... i was lucky cause it was 28 days after i bought it so they send me back my money and i bought toshiba!! its quite dangerous to put old bios versions, stick to Vista, much better than spending three weeks without computer and so...
