I ordered a dv5t a few days ago that came down to a price of $1054. Today, I tried the exactly same configuration and the price came down to $916 (mostly due to the deal on nvidia graphic card). And if I change the config. a little bit and increase the price to above $999, I can also apply the new $150 off coupon. It seems like I really should have held off buying and waited a few more days. Is there any way that I can call HP and apply these retroactively?

You should be able to since it would be covered under some sort of price guarantee.

Take a look at the HP dv5t review posted right here NBR back on 8/13/08- http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4555

The paragraph immediately following the list of specifications reads-

"The price I paid up front was $1,250. A few days after I ordered, HP started offering a $100 instant rebate, so I called and had the difference refunded. HP has a 21-day price protection policy, so if your configuration becomes cheaper during that time period, you can get the difference back. I feel $1,150 was a more than reasonable price for my dv5t configuration."

Apparently, HP has a price adjustment policy that should cover your situation. It's important to call them ASAP before the current coupon code expires, though. Once the $150 discount is no longer valid, they will have no obligation to adjust the price of your system.

If they hassle you, my suggestion is to tell them you plan to cancel the order (or return it for a refund, if it's too late to cancel) if they don't give you the lower price you saw today!

    Nope, I tried this already.

However I ordered a DV7T a few months back and when I called to return it HP offered me an additional 200 dollars off the price if I would keep it rather than return it.

I would call now and get your extra 150 back then call once you get it and tell them you felt it was too expensive, they should offer you more money to keep it.
