    With the HP sport backpack.

I couldn't see a need to pay a 300 dollar premium to the Dell 8600 for longer battery life, so I went with the regular P4 chip.

total cost with backpack: 1550 with student discount.

    P4 3.0 /HT
256 megs RAM (will order a 512 stick from Newegg)
    b/g/bluetooth wireless
    128mb ATI 9600
    15.4" WSXGA+ screen
    60Gb 5400 RPM HDD
    DVD/CDRW combo
    12 cell battery.

est. shipping date is July 20th, hopefully it will come earlier.

will write up a report once I get it!

Nice price! How much will your 512 cost? Let us know how you like it when it comes, especially gaming.

    -----------------------------------------

Oops - I thought you paid $1150... What you paid is definetly not a nice price for what you got...Did you get some extra warranty?

I just tried the same configuration and it came out to $1411 after student discount; $1294 with a 4200RPM 60GB HD...I woulda went for that...

well that's the "pay for" price. There's also a mail in rebate once I get it.. the backpack costs 50 bucks, so the actual laptop was almost exactly 1,500 dollars, without rebate.

I will be getting 512 Mb Crucial RAM, which will cost an extra 100 dollars. This will bring my total RAM to 768. and for 69 dollars more I will get the MX900 wireless mouse for use with the notebook.
