I've posted it before, but I notice some people are upset about HP's recent price increases. I called them about a price increase when they raised the v2000z and v5000z by $200 overnight, and they told me to wait until March 5 for new discounts. So, we'll see what happens.

Although the main page displays prices start at $607 for the V5000Z, yesterday I noticed that the base V5000Z with EPP pricing is really $457.99 (click 'Customize') which seems pretty good. No free shipping though.

Ah, my bad, it's $457.99 with APP.

So what's the difference between the v5000z and v2000z besides screen size?

The v5000z has 128MB of dedicated video memory while the v2000z is shared memory only. Same X200 GPU though. Otherwise... yeah, that's pretty much it.

Thanks for posting... I'm trying to make up my mind between big (Dell e1505 w/ WSGXA+ screen and Dual Core for ~ $900) or smaller (Compaq V2000Z). Hopefully, the price goes down on the V2000Z and free shipping returns.

They mentioned a $200 price decrease on v2000z. But we'll see what that means (like, they raised the price $200 and then give $200 discount so it's the same price as now).

Well this really sucks. As of this morning (3-5-06) not only did HP not follow through with the 200 dollar discount, they took away the free brightview, and free wireless. Now those options cost 25 bucks. However, you can get 50 percent off Norton. Like anybody really wants that anyway. I hope they aren't finished updating the site yet, cause this a really big dissapointment.

I don't think there will be any changes in price for next few weeks... I got new hp promotional magazine yesterday and prices in that are same as shown online. And they put dual core out 3 days ago, so it as far as I think price won't change for month at least on them, simple they will try to make money while it's new in market and if they drop price quick than they may have to give price different refund to those who already bought it with in month as per their price match policy.

Shucks. I'm going Dell. That is, if I can't wait for the normal deal to return and I don't think I can.

What? I got the magazine too. The DV5000 was there, only in the "t" version (Core Duo). What really pissed me off is that there was not one speck of AMD in there. No AMD desktops, no AMD notebooks. Just Intel. Celeron, Pentium D, Pentium 4, Pentium M, and Core Duo, but no AMD Athlon 64/X2/FX, Sempron, or Turion. Just another way HP shows it's preference for Intel (bad ATi XPRESS 200M cards in all AMD notebooks is another example. Come on HP, we're waiting!). Back on track, I'll probably just borrow my friend's Costco card- it's usually cheaper than from HP, with several exceptions.

I was also thinking of buying an MSI barebones and adding a Turion 40 MT.
Don't know which MSI model though...still I might go with the v2000z at Costco, but I don't have the Costco card, which means adding 5% to the total...oh, and tax too, I'm in CA.

If HP doesn't shape up, MSI it is.

EPP is for HP employees... Employee Purchase Plan -- I know... I am one and it gets us usually 15-25% off purchases.
