I've been looking to get an HP since October.. I've been holding off because I wanted something with better integrated graphics, better capabilities, etc with the whole new chipset stuff that was going to happen.

All that I've seen now is HP upgraded thet GMA 950 to the X3100 and it's the same damn PC for about 400 bucks more. WTF's going on?

I never considered it before, but I went to Lenovo to compare.. a much better machine for the exact same price.. So for the same price I get added in - 1 more year of Warranty service and 1GB Intel Turbo Memory. Oh, and this is for the R business series, probably much better built than the HP consumer series.

Maybe I'm just missing something, but HP is pulling a fast one.. it's upgrading the cost and nothing else, and even leaving out some key features of the new hardware.

If you look around you will notice that the new nvidia graphics line wont be out til June, so that's when we will see new laptops with dedicated graphics solutions based on the 8 series

they probably cost more or seem to cuz it is a way of enticing customers into buying the newest and latest and capitalizing on it. business as usual

I don't want a dedicated graphics chip. I want integrated. I would actually be fine with an ATI 1250 one that's customizable, but HP doesn't want that to happen either.

Their site is kind of messed up right now.

But in general I thought their new lineup was one of the best/most extensive. They upgraded every single laptop from their mainstream, business, and budget lineups. And they even added a new 20" entertainment beast.

Well current benchmarks of the dv6500t (or 2500t) put the X3100 as better than the old integrated offerings of nvidia and ATI

I doubt it, as the 3DMark scores don't reflect this.

As for the original poster, I assume that he is looking for an AMD solution (as the X1250 is part of the AMD 690 chipset). Who knows when they are going to be released to the consumer line, but it was not a part of this launch (Intel only).

They seem to have forgotten about the tx1000 entertainment tablet though. I would be all over that one right now if it weren't for the AMD processor. :/

I guess if nothing happens with that one in a month, I'll throw in the towel and order the next screen size up (the dv2500t).

You're definitely missing something! It is duly noted that your concern largely stems from the supposed price difference between the base configurations of the dvx500t series versus the dvx000t series. What you're missing is that the base configurations for the dvx000t notebooks have Celeron M CPU's while the dvx500t's already start with the brand-spanking-new Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo's. That alone accounts for the hundreds of dollars difference when you're comparing a brand new CPU with a three-generations-old one.

Why pick this bone with HP? This was an Intel launch - no one launched an AMD chipset with an ATI 1250 IGP with the Santa Rosa platform, not even precious Lenovo.

johnny: I know that the base models are very different in price, I'm talking actually configured. I configured a 2000t/z to be around 1100, but it was about 1450 or so with the 2500. For 1400 the lenovo models are much better.

I just brought up AMD as a point that it would be nice if HP offered AMD's new ones in their consumer line. If I'm going to get HP, at this point, it's going to be AMD only, because their Intel offerrings aren't special.

Saneless: HP will no doubt launch new AMD products soon. Most certainly before the back to school rush that's about 2-3 months aways.

The point is that this is an Intel event. HP would be very stupid to launch both new Intel and AMD products at t he same time because that will most likely PO both Intel and AMD who will have to share the limelight. Publicity is everything and neither would be willing to share the spotlight on such big events. So instead, HP is launching products separately so that it's not caught in an awkward situation.

Regarding HP's high price, that's just HP wanting to capitalize on the new product launch "craze". There will always be people who want the latest and greatest as soon as possible and are willing to pay for it. Therefore, HP is making a business decision to charge more because they know that they will make more money. As for Lenovo being cheaper, well, that's like saying Target is stupid because their stuff is more expensive than Walmart and that Target will go out of business for that.

Edit: I realized that there are people who might not know what Target is. It's a store chain that is generally regarded as a level above Walmart on the price scale but basically sells the same things.

And Target's lighting doesn't give me that screaming headache that 5 minutes in Walmart will do.

An I agree - it's all about the marketing and everyone looking like they play nicely. AMD/Intel/HP - their headquarters are all within shouting distance (figuratively speaking). Nobody wants to look worse than anyone else, everyone wants equal time, gotta keep your suppliers happy, yadda yadda yadda.

Really? Can you tell us how you configured the two, because I've done it to try to compare the prices of the dv2500t and the dv2000t and they were very comparable. The add-ons for both don't seem to differ that much in price.
