I've seen the DV1000 at several computer stores and read about it on the internet and have fallen in love with it. I will be attending college this fall and I think this is a good laptop for college students am I right?

I plan to keep this laptop just until I start my second year of college, so then I can get a laptop with the new Windows operating system, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD technology, 64 bit processor, all the new stuff that's coming late this year or early next year.

This will be my only laptop and I'll be doing everything on it, from playing older games to my schoolwork. I hope to finally play Doom 3 and Half Life 2 and all of that with my next laptop I'll buy fall 2006.

I know that there was an offer for a free battery and these offers keep coming and going. I plan to buy this in early March. Does anyone know if there'll be any discounts or anything of the sort offered with this laptop by then?

Do any DV1000 owners have any tips for me? Like to reinstall Windows and remove all of the junk installed at the factory? Or to buy the 12 cell battery? Sorry for all of the questions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you are not into watching DVD on a laptop ,why not go for v2000.It is sleek and looks like apple ibook.
Most people have a seperate DVD player and ipods for movies and music.

Actually, I am into DVD watching and I like the more busy look and black color of the DV1000 better. I also like the option of the remote control.

You need a 17" laptop to watch DVD with a remote [ :D]

So they'll be adding the Sonoma processor to this laptop soon? Do you know when?

Also in college, would you really have to carry your laptop around a lot? If so, then I guess I'll go with this model. If not, maybe I should try a bigger, heavier one that can game a little bit.

Thanks for your reply titaniummd! It was very helpful! [ :)]
