Yessss I woke up this morning and my Compaq V4000T finally has a tracking number. Two days early; although it does say "missed fedex cutoff" so I'm assuming that'll delay it another day...=(

Man you are gonna love it! I went to a LAN party this weekend and it performed flawlessly. I wish I could say the same for myself. Unfortunately, there were lots of young whipper-snappers there with nothing better to do all day than practice up on all these games! Got my butt stomped quite a bit! LOL! I'll have to bring my nephew next time for some redemption!

 

Awesome... My v4000t arrived this morning, but I'm at school!!! So I have to wait until I get home (7pm!!!)... Ugh.. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the day.. Its all I can think about lol

 

Do any of you guys have BF2? If you do try installing it and let me know how good it works. I want to get a laptop for school and BF2 and I was hoping to order this notebook.
Could you also let me know what kind of battery life when you are doing basic programs like word and email.

I'm ordering my v4000T tomorrow as well!!! Yay! :|

 

Mine plays BF2 with medium detail at 800x600 very well. Unfortunately, BF2 does not support wide aspect screen resolutions. So, everything looks just a little short and fat. But other than that, it's fine.

My 6-cell battery life is about 2 - 2.5 hours under normal use. And probably more like an hour when gaming. But if you're concerned about the battery life, just get the 12-cell. This will double the life.

 

Got the ram about an hour ago. Looks great; I can't wait to get the lappy. I wonder how long it will take to show up in Anchorage...?

 

Probably not long. As I recall. My laptop started in China and then the first US city it landed in was Anchorage!!!

I don't have HL2 or BF2; granted I can get the demo versions and play them of course! I mostly play CoD2 and WoW right now. Man; I hope it gets to Anchorage tonight and then down to me for delivery tomorrow. I live in Seattle; so it doesn't have far to go!

Well I haven't bought a new mouse or a cooler yet for the laptop. I'm looking at an external hard drive enclosure from zipzoomfly.com as well as a cooler ($50 for both w/ 2 day shipping free) I want the hard drive enclosure so I can use my 120Gig hard drive from my computer (selling off most of the peices from it)

I'm not sure if I'm going to get an extra mouse; I have a cheap microsoft grey USB one that I can use when I'm mobile; and I have an FX1000 Laser Mouse from Logitech that I was going to use while I'm at home. Hell I might even use my split keyboard too. I had a decent gaming machine but I am moving to Japan so I traded it in for this bad boy.

 

OOo i see, lol if i had the money i'd get myself an external =) i was thinking of it but i really dont got the money for it right now, i still owe my mom $230 lol for newegg parts

 

Well I can't afford an external either. That's why I wanted to get an enclosure and just use a hard drive I already had. I think some of the models are hot swappable; I have an extra 40 GB laying around I could use for movies/etc...$30 for the stuff w/o a hard drive isn't bad if you have an extra laying around. Especially when they go up to 400GB hard drives; you can buy a cheap IDE one and just make it external for less.

 

yea i know i wanted at least 200gb tho thats why so external case + the hd would be like $130 =) lol

 

Oooh I see; that would cost a bit. I know what you mean though about being broke. I have $9 dollars to my name and I still owe my wife $10 for some boxes we're shipping to Tokyo. I still have some things to sell so I will hopefully get enough to buy those and a laptop case.

Well I was going to get a slim case for my notebook, i live in nyc lol you never see anyone carrying a notebook around. People will probably rob you for it, so many incidents of people robbing ipods, even heard of some ppl robbing other peoples sneakers. So I was going to get this http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=CVR200 , and put the notebook into my Nike Bag, its a really thin sports bag its almost like a cheap plastic grocery shopping bag.

I heard it fits a 15.4 NON WIDESCREEN notebook. I got a 14.0 inch and i looked at the specs it seems to fit my notebook.

 

Ah I saw those on Amazon for that cheap discounted price or something...(wow that was informative)

Anyway; seems like Targus is the brand to beat. I never noticed if they sold ones for widscreen editions. I wonder if the normal 15" will work.

 

their 15 inch ones wont work for widescreen i flipped through people's reviews, actually I think the best thing to do is check the dimensions and match it with the interior dimensions. Mine seems to fit =)

 

What bios version do you v4000t owners have? Mine came with f.04 but i was having issues with the screen resolution. downloading f.03 fixed it.

curious if anyone has similar issues.

Wonder dude what are your V4000T specs? I am looking into getting this latop for BF2 and school. What do you recomend for decent BF2 gaming. Like how short and fat are we talking? Is it anoying at all or have you gotten used to it?

Note that this is where the matted screen's biggest weakness is. I believe anyway. I think that the glossy screen would have better angle viewing. But, I'm still very glad I don't have to deal with all those stupid reflections.

 

The viewing angle on my glossy screen v4000t is very good.. I thought that the viewing angles were the same on glossy/non-glossy.. That's interesting.

 

Yea but it's not like your going to sit there at that angle and try to play; besides just think of it as a privacy feature

It took a ridiculas amount of time to ship. It sat in China for 1 day, then again for 1 day in Alaska. Monday in China (Sunday our time) till today...

Also I wish I had gotten the 533Mhz FSB Processor. I was strapped for cash and thinking about pin-modding it so I went for the 400Mhz one...

 

Yeah I'm thinking about the Pin Mod myself.
