Hello,
Today as always I put my HP Pavilion dv2500 dv2550se notebook my by backpack to walk back to my room from the library but when I got back it had crashed.
I tried everything I could and then contacted hp.
They said since I was receiving a "No IDE" message that.
They offered to send me a mailing envelope for free service but I know this going to take weeks and I was wondering if anyone here knew how to fix this.
Thanks,
Evan

Try reseating the hard drive.

double check that its pushed in and seated properly
im afraid you might have to send it in. the hd or controller could be dead.
wait.. did you put your notebook in your bag while it was on?
its a bad idea walking around if your HD is spinning -
Yeah it is really a dumb mistake on my part.
The only part that is the worst that there are a lot of files on the hard drive that I need, and shipping and waiting for repair will take some time.
Does anyone have any ideas that may help out this at all. -
yeah, HD's can easily get damaged by heavy movement and vibration. Next time put the computer to sleep or hibernate first
Buy a SATA external USB enclosure then plug it in on a different computer. See if shows up as a external HD. If it doesnt, then its definately dead
Alternatively you can send in the harddrive to specialist that can recover the files by pulling apart the HD. Im sure the data are still intact and recoverable. It might cost you abit though. -
I have found out that it is the hd that is dead and my controllers are fine.
Does anyone have any good suggestions on a replacement hd that I could get for cheap? -
how much space do you need? Im assuming you only need a 5400rpm?
-
I would look at the Scorpio series of HDDs from Western Digital, specifically the 320B 5,400RPM model. Very fast, very competent hard drive, the same one I use in my HP dv6500t SE notebook which replaced a 250GB Toshiba HDD. WD also makes a 250GB version of the Scorpio drive which is a bit cheaper than springing for the 320GB HDD solution.
