I know that many people have been having some issues with the IDT Audio driver.
For me, the issue is that sometimes on startup I get an error message that says the driver experienced an error and it closes and so I can't hear any audio out of my speakers until I restart. This happens randomly on some startups and today it happened when I opened iTunes for some reason.

I currently use driver version 6.10.6087.0 A which is what HP claims on their site is the latest version for my dv7t-1000.

I've read that some people use 6.10.6087.22.

And I just saw today that there is a 6.10.6087.60 C for the dv7t-2000.

My question is, can I use this new driver? How should I go about installing it?

    Thanks

for me, the difference b/w the 6.10.6087 and the 6.10.6087.22 is noticable. the sound comes out a bit clearer and the QuickTouch button for the mute works. i am however running windows xp. your results might be different in vista. also, 6.10.6087.60 might work even better but i personally cant try since that version is only for vista.

thanks for the response! I just realized, now that you mentioned it, that my mute QuickTouch button doesn't work. I guess I never tried it before but that's good to know that the update fixed it.
I would like to try the newest version, but I just wish I could get a confirmation from someone on whether it works or not. If I were to try it, would I be able to revert back after if needed? And should I uninstall the old one before installing the new driver or just let it overwrite it?

Lastly, why does HP have different driver version for the different dv7ts? I don't see why the dv7t-1000, 1100, 1200, and 2000 have different versions. If they all use IDT Audio, then shouldn't they all be eligible for the newest version?

BTW, what sound improvements did you notice with the .22 vs the .0?

    Thanks

    EDIT:
BTW, I just noticed that the .22 version that you have is supposedly for the dv6t, but it works fine on your dv5t, right? So I don't see why the newest .60 wouldn't work for me. It's for the dv7t so unless the dv7t-2000 has a major change in it, then I see no reason why that driver wouldn't work for me.

It all depends on the device id for your version of the IDT sound codec. You need to look in device manager and post it. Sometimes HP uses slightly different revisions of the IDT hardware in different models. Let me know what your device ID is and I can tell you what versions will support your PC! :)

Oh, I see. - Are you looking for my "matching device id" from the details tab of the preferences of the driver in the device manager? If so, it's
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_111d&dev_76b2&subsys_103c30f4

I have a slightly different ID in my HDX18 (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76B2&SUBSYS_103C3610), and when i try and install any of those audio codec updates, it fails, saying that the installer is blocking it.

The following device Id's are supported in the latest IDT driver (version 6.10.6087.60).

    %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7603&SUBSYS_103C3627
    %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7603&SUBSYS_103C3628
    %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7603&SUBSYS_103C3629
    %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7603&SUBSYS_103C3623
    %ST.DeviceDesc%=STHDA,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_7603&SUBSYS_103C3624

Unfortunalty it looks like neither of your Device ID's is supported by the latest driver. 6.10.6087.22 however has support for a far greater variety of device id's and hence will probably work with your machines. :)

Yeah, i gave that a shot and it installed but just seems outdated is all. My biggest problem is that the voulme just isn't loud enough even though i have every possible section turned up to max. If i'm not in a total quiet room i can't hear the dailyshow clips or windows mediacenter TV cause it's just down. When i look at the volume meter in windows, the green doesn't supass 20% :(

ok so do you recommend that I upgrade to .22 from my .0? What are the changes that you've noticed? Do you think it might fix the problem with the IDT Driver sometimes ceases to work on startup?

.22 is definitely safe for my device, right?

    EDIT:

    The .22 update info says:

    My device says: dev_76b2.

Aren't these different? Or am I looking at the wrong numbers/letters?

The new .60 says DEV7603 too so wouldn't that be ok to use?

The whole string must match. You should compare it to the string in Device Manager under that "Hardware ID" item in the drop down list (the second one without the REV section of the ID. The following devices are supported in the .22 version:

Oh, ok. I understand it now. Thank you very much for all your help. I will update to the .22 version.

EDIT: I performed the update and it seems to be working great. So far, so good.

    Thanks!

So far the new driver has been awesome. No problems and it sounds great.

Just wondering about this - Would this affect me:

I don't notice any problem but am I missing something if it's trying to save power or something?

EDIT: Maybe that's just for people using XP?
