If I had to get a new Laptop for college today would this be good for me.

    Its a dv2000

    – Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
    – AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-52 (1.60GHz/512KB)
    – 14.1" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    – NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 6150
    – 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB)
    – 100 GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive
    – Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    – 802.11a/b/g WLAN and Bluetooth
    – 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    – Microsoft(R) Works/Money
    – Genuine Windows XP Home Edition Backup CD
    – HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    Order subtotal $1,274.99

I want to use it for all the school stuff but I also want to be able to do some decent game play like Steams's CounterStrike ect. I want to know is this good enough and is there somethings i could do to save some money on it AKA newegg ect.

Thanks. This site has been some good help to me.

Unless you're stuck on the Turion 64X2, there are probably CoreDuo options that come in your budget with vastly better GPUs.

it sounds like it will do everything you want it too. the W3J-H017P is a great option too, only it is more expensive and is more than you need, of course, computers are all about future proofing. Personally, im going with a dv2000z for college just because it fits my college needs perfectly and i have my tower that has dual 7800 gt's for gaming...

    Good luck,
    Samuel

oh, and for $40, get the 12 cell battery!!! not only does it give you longer battery life, it props the computer up making it easier (in my opinion) to type and keeps your notebook cooler. Its sort of a no brainer for $40.

Yeah I was thinking of that. $40 to get double bat life. Im really wanting to wait til its in the store so i can go see it and stuff because im not one to buy things like this over the net without a hands on look at it.

typically thats how i feel. I had a chance to see it in person at a demo by HP for the retail chain i work for. It has nice ventilation and seems quite sturdy. I didn't get to use the computer while it was on (HP policy), but it certainly looks like a winner.

i wish i could confirm any dates for you but i can't.. i would suggest stopping in at a store and sometimes their sales managers will know information. I would also suggest going after market with ram and getting 667 pc 5300.
