    KB955430
“ Install this update to enable future updates to install successfully on all editions of Windows Vista. This update may be required before selected future updates can be installed. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer

See unit system specs below. Both of these units are set to notify, but not to download or install updates, automatically. This evening both computers showed that updates were available. I downloaded and installed KB955430 on the DV4t and restarted the computer. The update killed the Bluetooth. By that, I mean that the Microsoft BT notebook mouse 5000 that we normally use on this unit was no longer detected. Hmmmm….. so I checked the BT for the phone my daughter uses. Nope…. It was gone also, though both devices still appeared in the BT manager. I uninstalled both devices, re-initiated each device, installed the keys, and all function returned without issue. The exact same behavior then occurred on the DV2700tv following the update.

I believe KB955430 is a preparation install for Vista SP2 but I have no idea why such an update would kill the BT until it was cleared and re-initiated. I also can't say whether this problem is specific to something I have setup in BT on each computer or whether it effects all Vista computers w/BT, HP Vista computers w/BT, or what? Different chip-sets though and same result. I just thought all you BT users might appreciate the heads-up.

Easy to fix…. but nice to know the threat.

Good deal..... though I have to wonder what's the difference. BT Chipsets perhaps? Very strange though, that both our units with different chips would both dump the BT.
