Like it says I'm in the market to buy a new laptop. I've had a Toshiba which I bought ($300) on Black Friday two years ago and I it was a huge disappointment. After about 6 months the battery only lasted 12 minutes. My brother has a HP-DV6000t (6.1lbs) which he bought for about $800 and I think it's awesome, then again I know nothing about laptops. His laptop has some things on the side of the main screen like small notes that look like post-it's, picture sideshows, and the computer has different setting to save battery life. I was looking to spend no more then 1k and want something portable so that I can carry around the house and to school. I plan on using the computer for normal things like surfing the web, downloading music, messing with pictures (want to learn to crop pics and make sigs), burning DVD's, and playing games. I know I want a fast processor so that I dont have to worry about things taking a long time to load. I think I want a Intel core dual processor they're fast right? What do you think about the HP-DV6000t, and what other computers would you recommend for me? I'm maybe willing to spend 1100-1200 if need be. I guess I want a big screen, 15.4 or up, because if i do plan on watching a dvd or play games I dont want to be looking into a 12.1" screen. And I've noticed the smaller the screen the smaller the keypad, I dont want to be pressing 5 button at the same time nor do I want my hands cramped up together to fit the small keypad. Again you opinions on the HP-DV6000t and what would you recommend? And what should I be looking for spec wise? Thanks.

If possible provide a link to the laptop you recommend and price, thanks.

I concur, go with the Intel chipset it not only runs cooler but you will appreciate it later on. It may cost a little bit more but you get what you pay for.... Thats also something to keep in mind when buying items, technology related or not. Research the product thoroughly

Bought mine just on 4th of November. It's amazing, loving it esp. after owning a big huge Compaq Presario 2500 whose battery now last for 2 mins only :D

Oh and the sticky notes you are talking about. It is Vista's side bar features :)

Still real happy with mine, have had it for 8 months. It is great around the house, good in our van, a little too big on airplaines. Fast and Stable. We have really been enjoying the tv tuner, it has changed the way we watch tv.

Don't forget to consider the MacBook Pro. I had an HP dv9000t and ended up returning it for a MBP for my wife. The MBP runs all of our Windows apps via Parallels. It has been an excellent switch.

I've had my laptop for around a month or two. In my opinion it works great. If your trying to save money now I would get the best processor and GPU and stick with 2gb of memory and the lowest hard drive. The reason for this is that you can easily replace the 2gb of memory and hard drive, also you can get them for a better price.

Don't fall for the temptation to get the fastest processor available. The small changes in speed between the fastest and the middle-of-the-road don't justify the cost. Unless you are doing hard core video processing for hours upon hours, there's no benefit to the faster CPU.

Instead put that money towards RAM. That's probably the most important thing your system needs. 2GB is the minimum for Vista. If you want more than that, you should buy it from somewhere other than HP, because HP charges 200% more for 4GB of RAM (RAM from somewhere else does not void your warranty).

I'd like to first start off by saying thanks to everyone that replied to this thread. After carefully examining what ya'll had to say abut the 6000t I've decided to go with the DV6500t. I comes with 2GHZ (dont know what it stands for but i know it's better then a 1.88), Intel video card, and 160GB. I found plenty of them on Ebay for about a 1k give or take $30. My question is, should I buy the laptop from Ebay? Is there other places that match that price? Is 1k a good price for a DV6500?

You should take a look at HP.com and also bestbuy or circuitcity (or any of the other stores in your area). I would be cautious about buying on ebay because you don't know if the seller is authorized, it may not come with a warranty, and if you have problems you will likely have no recourse.

Go to HP.com. Pick either the DV6500T or 2500T and customize it the way you like. Don't forget the coupon. There's always a coupon. If you like my configuration which you can see at the bottom of this post, it came out to around $975, and that's including everything..tax, shipping. It would have been 1300+ had I not used a coupon. Good luck
