So, I just bought a brand new dv2500t. It came a couple days ago, worked fine, then suddenly died on me--a motherboard problem, I think, as upon power-up, all of the blue LEDs turned on, but there was no HD activity and no display whatsoever. Also, re-seating the RAM had no effect. Anyway, long story short--went through all the recommended repairs with a phone support guy, who then called me back the next day and informed me they'd be sending me a replacement, which "should have the same specifications as [my] model, but depending on parts availability, might have an upgrade or two." Since I already maxed out on RAM, I'm thinking the only real upgrades could be the HD or processor.

Has anyone had any replacement experiences w/ HP? I'm basically wondering if I'm going to get screwed over and inadvertently end up with something worse, and have to go through it all over again--since the dv2500t is a CTO model only, it seems, I don't get why parts availability really has much to do with it.

Also, has anyone else experienced a mobo problem w/ Santa Rosa?

Well as far as the parts go...

They know they need to get a laptop to you, and they might have all of a particular part (for example a 60GB HDD) allocated to the production line already. Instead of waiting a little longer for the 60GB, they might have a pile of 80GB drives they don't have allocated yet...and will use that. Either that, or they are looking for a refurb unit that has the closest specs available.

What I can't believe is they are sending a replacement after just 1 failure. Either your very lucky or HP may have recognized a major defect. My dv9008nr had to fail 3 times for the same thing before I got a replacement. BTW it failed with the same symptoms you described. I'm happy with my replacement. It works just fine. I hope you get a good system.
