Hey guys, although this is my first post I have been browsing at these forums a long time now and I would like to thank you for helping me out even though you did not know about it.

I recently bought a tx1000z from HP. I decided to increase the ram to 3gb (up from 2gb originally) so I bought a 2gb mem stick from newegg for a good price (transcend)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208323

Before the upgrade with only 2 gb ram, my windows experience index for the memory was 5.3. After the upgrade it went down to 4.7!!!

I mean the laptop is faster with the 3 gb instead with the 2 that's for sure. Why did my index go down? I know that AMD processors like the same memory in both channels so could it be that having 1 1gb stick and 1 2gb stick for a total of 3 gb causes the index to decrease instead of having 1 gb and 1 gb in each channel?

I am very confused so if you can offer me some words of wisdom I would appreciate it.

Thanks Thaoster, I know about the WEI mod, but I would expect it at least if not to increase to stay the same, hence my confusion. Anyway, I don't really believe in modifying it because it is not as if this will translate into an increase in performance. Has anyone ever used transcend and if so what are your experiences with it? I am thinking about ordering another one to bump my mem to 4 gb and switch to windows vista ultimate (already have the disk from my school)

If you've been browsing these forums, then you should know that mentioning the WEI is blasphemy. Please proceed to your castration, scheduled for next Sunday at 11 AM.

lol :D I am just worried that the performance is decreased and I did not really notice it.

Take out the memory and see if the W** will go up.

Seriously, listen to these people, don't trust WEI, let me illustrate. Just for the heck of it I looked at mine on my new laptop, the memory showed a 3.2, I have 2 GB in a brand new dv9500t. So I told it to recheck and it jumped up to 4.7... I'm sure if I did it again it would change again.

    Don't worry about it.

Ok I did a little experiment. I bumped up the ram to 4 gb, although vista only recognized 3, and the WEI went up to 5.6. Point made: even though windows still works with the same amount of ram, it seems to like that both chips are the same size. Not that it matters but for what it's worth this is what I found.

Also another question. After installing the second 2 gb chip, the laptop's fan kicked in and wouldn't stop. Any reason for this?
