    I am getting the dv6t qe 6017tx which has 4gb ram in single slot. I had a question- I want to increase the ram to 8gb, how do i do this? Should i add 4gb to the other slot or get 2x4gb and alo replace the existing ram. I have heard that using rams from 2 different brand can cause BSODs. Also can anyone tell me what brand is the stock ram. Should i just get the exact same ram? Or getting a seperate ram that has same specs do the trick.

    The 6gb configurations have been shipping with 4gb 1333mhz Micron and a 2gb from Samsung or Hyundai.

    If yours comes with Micron in it, you should be OK buying Crucial/Micron of the same speed rating.

    In my experience the brand does not really matter. The more important think the the frequency. It will probably be 1333mhz. If you can spare the extra money (probably not going to be that much more) then buy the same brand. You can use a program called CPU-Z to easily tell you what type of RAM is in your system. Your best bet will be to buy the same exact 4gb chip; it shouldn't be to hard.

    I am also having the dv6-6017tx. The stock 4GB RAM is of Samsung 1333 MHz and I added another 4GB of Zion(Micron Technology) 1333 MHz and both are working fine in dual channel with no BSODs as far. So, you can use 2 different brands but the frequency and timings should be same. But, it is always recommended to have matched pair of the same brand for maximum performance and stability (ofcourse, if you have that extra money to spare ;) );

    I am guessing I'll just try to find another Samsung 4gb 1333mhz ram.
    YoungBoy_220 where are you from? Cause I think if you're from a different country than I am from then I believe there is a chance that the ram in my 6017tx could be different. I am from India. I havent got my dv6 yet and thus I can't check for myself. If I am not able to find samsung ram then will it be okay if I just add another 4gb ddr3 1333mhz module from Adata or Corsair.
