I sent in my notebook for repair and now I have it back. HP replaced my motherboard. The only problem I have now is in getting the remote to work.

I am running Windows Vista Home Basic.

There are no "Unknown Devices" in my Device Manager. I do not see any "Consumer IR Device". Is there some other name for the infrared device? I installed Quick Play and Quick Launch, but that didn't help.

I even updated my bios to F.39 (it was already F.39), but that didn't do the trick either.

I also tried enabling the IR on my phone and putting it near the IR sensor (line-of-sight) but nothing popped up on the computer.

    Thanks for any help.

I fixed my problem. I replaced the battery in the remote.... oops.

So it seems no driver is necessary, and no IR port shows up in the device manager because it is not a true infrared port.

The battery died quickly because when you insert it on the slot it gets toasted by the HDD's heat

Heres how you check when IR remotes are sending beams

    1)Get ANY digital camera,
2)Point the IR directly at it
    3)Press a button
4)Watch and see the IR Beams/Light (not so invisible after all)
