I'm guessing the infrared has to do with the webcam but can it be used for anything else like using the computer as a remote for a tv or something?

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure the white plastic piece under the trackpad and between the speaker vents is infrared.

That's the place that allows the bluetooth signal to come out of...

Otherwise it'll get stopped by the metal.

Also why there's a plastic strip along the top of the display. Lets the wifi/wwan signals through

Oh ok well that makes sense but i swear i've read somewhere that there is some kind of infrared system that helps the webcam in low light situations. I could very well be wrong.

maybe infrared to see some detail without light to improve webcam quality in low light

Maybe it's the hole just to the right of the webcam (between webcam hole and right mic hole) if you look very closely

yup looks like the sensors on smartphones that help adjust brightness of screen so I am guessing it detects low light vs lit

Oh, that's just the webcam light

Sucks that the Envy doesn't have any fancy almost-useless features, they really make a computer more interesting IMO

Only if they make it optional to get those features! I wouldn't want to be paying for something I won't ever use lol.
