My DV4i has the ENE CIR Receiver, but I can't determine if it's supposed to be useful for anything besides the remote. For example, I have an old Palm that works with IR (at least IrCOMM-compatible IR, which I can't determine if ENE is). Any ideas?

yeah unfortunately it works only for the remote - it doesn't do output from the laptop, only input for the remote (my palm doesn't work with my dv7 and didn't work with my old dv9543cl, but it did work on my dad's old 5000)
