    Hi,
I had Installed XP Professional with my notebook HP DV6226Tx which comes with Vista Home PreInstalled.
I had followed the simple process to do that.
I had just created partion with Vista Partition Manager, then booted my notebook with XP. That has done my work and i had installed XP on my notebook. (I am mentioning this bocoz i had searched a lot and this is the simple solution to install XP).
Once i had installed the problem was the drivers, so i had download the drivers from
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842155&lang=en

Downloading from that link has given me most of the drivers and i can continue with my normal work..

But now coming to the problem which i m facing

My WebCam is not working, it says that can not detect webcam while trying to connect. And i am not able to find from where i can install QuickTime for XP. Iam not able to find the site from where i can download it.

Can anybosy like to put comments and help me.
Any help and query will definetly help me to troubleshoot the issue.

Link for quicktime. not pro just basic. you have to buy pro. change the x's to t's.

    hxxp://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

As for the webcam, have you tried downloading the webcam drivers from the hp support site? download the drivers and install them. i would also check your device manager for other hardware that didnt install under xp. the memory card reader for example usually doesnt install.

    good luck

you probably need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that it boots from the optical drive before the hdd.

go through the various models of dv2xxx dv6xxx and dv9xxx and look for different driver files for the webcam, maybe one of them will work.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3289720&lang=en

these are the drivers for my dv9081ea. there are 3 webcam drivers listed here, each one a different filename. Try them out especially the newer ones dated march 2007, they might work since the older driver and the vista driver for the webcam is the same as the ones in the dv6000 series and others.

    Hi

I hav got the same notebook (dv6226TX) & want to downgrade from Vista to XP. Can u plz tell which drivers I need to download to have a complete install of the stuff. There are many drivers listed on the link u gave. Do I need to download them all?

Also how do I do a fresh-install of XP? I mean do I need to format all the vista partitions beforehand? If yes how do I do that? If not what should I do.

I m just scared I mite screw up something.

    Reply awaited.
    Thanks

    HI,

I too own a HP dv6226tx which came with bundled Vista Home premium. I have got rid of vista due to poor battery performance. I have installed XP pro SP2.

    THE ACTUAL PROBLEM:

I installed XP expecting that I would get nearly 2 hrs of battery backup, but I get only 1:13 hrs of total backup. Can you guys help me sort out this issue? The Webcam cannot preview any image i.e. the blue light next to the lens is not lighting up.

In the device manager there is one component with the attention mark. The device is named as SM BUS CONTROLLER. Any suggestions on this would be very helpful.

    HEY FOLLOW THIS !!!!!

When ur machine boots use the F10 option to enter the BIOS and look for the peripherals option. There u'll find the option of Native SATA. You have to disable this feature and then load the XP cd in the drive which will directly take you to the XP setup page. The Blue screen. But before you this you must have the recovery discs to Vista, for just in case .......... action. get it

    Happy tweaking!!!!!!!
