I got everything successfully installed but "good" working audio drivers and the IR receiver, but not really worried about it since it's really only for the remote and that's only for media center.
I used Nlite and installed these sata drivers
http://www.biostar-usa.com/upload/Driver//Chipset/ATI/SB700/SATA_AHCI_RAID/XP.zip
Majority, counting the audio drivers, were installed via windows update. The audio drivers installed, but CONSTANTLY make the speakers just pop. Almost makes it sound like my speakers are bad, but I know they're not because they work perfect in vista.
Unless you are going to use this laptop for nothing but a pure gaming machine, then you may want to work hard to get XP's sound working, but in my opinion it's not worth it.
Ask any questions you may have in the thread.

Did your internet connections work from the get go? I just installed XP on my dv5-1017 and i have all drivers installed but am still showing no internet connections. Any ideas?

If you guys have the swsetup file saved, the IDT audio folder has drivers for XP...I installed it manually through the "computer management" part and I don't get those random pops at all.

you guys tried putting the individual volumes (wav/midi etc) down to like 1/4 and then adjusting the main volume control? I found that on my DV6609 the volume is WAY out of whack but if you turn it way down it drops to an acceptable level and sounds ok, sorta like the "preamp" levels in the driver are set way too high so you have to knock the source levels way down to where they're not distorting into the main output mixer volume. Of course that assumes you have the same audio I do, the DV has the premium multi channel audio thing, forget who makes it off hand...

Waste of time if you ask me.
