So I just got finished installing CS:S. And then I found out the game doesn't work. I get "HL2.exe has stopped working" I don't even get to the menu screen. I googled this and people are saying a number of things that seem to not match my description.

I restart and find that my network icon says im disconnected, but apparently I'm not. Also when I open Network and Sharing manager, the window freezes. Accessing wifi takes a long time.

How do I get CS:S to work and my network to run without issues?

I was planning on restoring my HP laptop to factory settings and reinstalling steam+cs:s, BUT I don't want to do that if I know CS:S will give me the same issue as it did today and I also don't want to do it if there is another solution to this problem.

    My Specs:
    Vista Home Prem. 32-Bit
    2GB Ram
    AMD X2 1.90 ghz
    NVIDIA 8400M GS

Update your video drivers, turn off all background apps.

Accessing the wireless connections always takes a long time after boot on Vista since it gives it the very lowest priority.

Yes but before I installed CS:S right clicking and selecting Connect to wireless network did not take this much amount of time for the Availible network window to pop up.

My network connection program has been damaged.

After waiting about 5 minutes, the network manager stops lagging and the window works.

The connection says Unknown, but I am clearly connected to the internet.

Do a clean install, its probably clashing with the HP Crapware thats why its taking forever to load up after login. Doing a recovery install will most likely work

For me CS:S works fine with no issues like that

Still am incapable of installing CS:S and getting it to run.

netkiller is absolutely correct. I updated my video using the laptop2go drivers and HL2 and CSS work fine. I didn't do a clean Vista install, I just uninstalled all the garbage, ran disk cleanup, CCCleaner and defraged and I'm not having any issues what so ever. Also, follow the sticky; top windows tweaks under OS and software and you should be good to go.
