Is there a guide/walkthrough for this somewhere? I cba to look through a 80 page thread. Also, the search within thread function appears to be fubar.

this model is possibly the easiest to install an SSD drive. If you talking about a 2.5" SSD, all you do is slide the battery latch over and pull down on the back plate. The battery and hard drive are right there.

Yeah it's not something that really requires a guide as far as how to install it. At most perhaps see the Service manual. (1st post of Owner's lounge has link.)

But here's a few pointers; Do a clean install so you get proper alignment of the SSD. There are a number of clean install guides. See the Envy 14 owner's lounge 1st page for other hints and tips.

Also see bottom of this directory for a better search experience: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/562858-hp-envy-hdx-complete-owners-lounge-directory.html

Do we use the drivers from the C:\SWSetup Folder? Is this all the drivers and other programs that will be needed?

Yes, that folder has all the drivers. Some may be updated by now and would be found on HP's website.

Ive been waiting for someone to try and install an SSD in the optical drive spot myself, I refuse to do it without instructions haha.

    Example of questions Id have:

-If I install the SSD and do the fresh install of windows, what do I do to the windows on my HDD? I dont want to lose my files and configurations as I have had this PC using it daily for 2-3 weeks.

Besides windows, what else would I want to install on the SSD?

Whew! Good thing I didn't say there was.

There are plenty of clean install guides. Have a look around.

BTW, if you really look carefully on the Envy 14 owner's lounge first page, you actually WILL see links to clean install guides. Hint: it's in the "guides, drivers, software" section of the post.

Yes, but you'd want to partition and format the SSD first to allow for proper alignment. For that you'd need a Win7 install DVD or any program that can run in pre-boot environment that will allow you to initialize, partition and format the SSD.

I'm getting my Envy 15 and SSD tomorrow. To be clear, I should make back up discs with the hard drive that comes shipped with the pc. Then install the SSD then windows, then use the backup discs to get the drivers etc? I just want to make sure I do this right the first time. Thanks!

I mean I have a very basic generic guide that I'm making for myself when I get my Ivy Bridge Envy later this year.

The problem is that it varies depending on the SSD. My guide is done with the assumption that you are going to put it into the 2nd bay and update the firmware as opposed to installing it right away into the main/primary bay.

Also I don't mention the screws part. There are youtube videos and guides on certain websites regarding the removing of the underside of the Envy.

Yes. However, using a Win7 disc will result in a clean install. Using the recovery disc set will result in a reimage of how your notebook came from the factory.
