    Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a hp DV2700T with Windows Vista Home bundelled in it.... I wanted to install Windows XP Pro in the M/C and as s such I contacted the HP Customer care for their guidance. But this is what I get in response :

I would like to share a few information regarding the downgrading the Operating system in your HP Pavilion dv2700t notebook. I regret to inform you that there is no option to install Windows XP Professional in your notebook. Since, your notebook does not have the option to disable SATA in BIOS settings. Disabling SATA will allow the users to install XP in their notebooks. Also, all the notebooks which fall under dv25xx, dv65xx and dv95xx series does not have option to install windows XP professional.

Additionally, your notebook is specially designed and bundled for Windows Vista Operating System. it is not recommend by HP to install Windows XP Professional on a Vista bundled notebook

Does this mean that I cannot install XP Pro on my M/C. The reason why I am so much woried is that I use this M/C in my work as well and as such a lot of the Softwares are not compatible with Windows Vista as as such I would like to install XP Pro in my M/C

Thaks for ant help in this regards.

there are ways to slipstream the SATA drivers into xp installation (think its called nlite) but this is one of the newest notebooks and I would check to see if I could find all the XP drivers first.
I am using Vista here and I would hate to go back to XP, for some people it just takes some getting used, but it works fine. So I would just try it for a bit, but of course its your choice. (just my two cents)

yes, you can slipstream the drivers w/ nLite- very easy to use, freeware and can be downloaded off the net. it give you all sorts of options, but you basically just find your sata drivers, extract to a folder and slipstream them with into a new xp bootable CD w/ the programs. it's really very easy.

xp create does the same and has a list of the drivers at their site

Seriously, read the stickies. They are stickied for a reason. the one you need to look at is "installing XP on dvx500t series." I want you to try, and then report back to give a second opinion on ACPI bypassing on 2700 series.

Chiru - Stickies are the top posts on Page 1 of each section, eg- HP & Compaq. They always occupy the top two-three-four or more post positions on each Page 1. As to your 2700T, best of luck with the XP install. H-P has decided to make the installation/use of XP as difficult as possible for reasons unknown. I sold my recently received 2700 due to problems with XP on it. Otherwise it was a very nice machine and ran pretty well with Vista after I re-installed it (for the purchaser) without all of the Norton/etc crapware.

New to the forum and I've been doing some reading on this topic. I just purchased a dv2700tse ( dv2700t special edition for forum search purposes) and like others, I want to install XP. I wanted to see if there was any progress on getting this done and still having ACPI work. If there is not, I wanted to see if anyone had tried to take an image, with Ghost or something, from a Windows XP dv6700t and trying to overlay it on a 2700t. I know some of the drivers won't work (sound, touchpad, or other some such non-sense), but the hard drive controllers are the same and that way Windows would have ACPI installed.

Please let me know if this has been tried, I've read through almost all of the 75+ pages of this thread and didnt see anyone trying that out.

And to answer the 64-bit question someone asked. I have a confirmed working 6500t with XP 64 on it. It is possible, just follow similar directions for the 6000t on Google. I believe the only thing that does not work is the single quick-launch button beside the mute button. Although, I never really cared about it so I never put forth any effort to make it work; so I bet it's possible. If you pm me, I might be able to provide various 64-bit drivers I have scavenged from across the interwebs.

Possible fix for dv2700t. Downgrade to F.13 BIOS (older) and then you can install XP with full ACPI support. Please confirm or deny if you think this will work.
