I've just bought an HP 6510B and I'd like install XP in change of the current windows vista business.
Is it sufficient to download all the driver by the hp web site and then proceed with the os installation ?
Or are there any aspects to consider to not have problems ?

If possible I'd like to have some useful reference/url.

    thks

If the laptop has a SATA hard drive you will need to slipstream the relevant driver into your XP installation using nlite. Check that HP has all the drivers you need as XP versions, if they don't then make note of the components that are missing and find XP drivers before you format. Its a hell of alot easier to find drivers when you know what your looking for because all XP device manager will tell you is "ethernet controller" or "Base system device" (my personal favorite).

I would use nLite to slipstream in all the possible drivers plus XP SP3 (download the full installer file and let nLite pick out the bits it needs). With SP3 pre-installed you will have all the various security patches in place before you connect to the internet.

So... Would I have to use nLite before to obtain an XP Sp3 installation disc with all the drivers included ?

    P.S.: yes, I have a SATA drive

I've done the vista business restore discs (2 dvds) and now I'm downloading all the needed software, packages and drivers to make a "ad-hoc" xp installation disc.
I don't knoe if it's better to add also some important security patches or if it's better to download them after have installed the os.

Is it ok to include sp2, sp3 and all the drivers (SATA included) or I need any other things ?

    I've problems again.

I've done an xp copy with nlite integrating sp3, windows media player, ie7 plus patch, directx, net framework and sata driver.

But during the installation the systems gives some messages od type "Impossible to copy the file ks.sys" or "Impossible to copy the file notify.wav" or the same thing with other .dll file type.
