Does anyone know if the Seagate freeagent go 1 tb external hard drive will be able to be installed internally into the Envy 14?

if it is the portable 2.5" hard drive then you should have no problem installing it internally!

I did some research and I think the max height for a harddrive the Envy can hold is 9.5mm. The hard drive inside the seagate freeagent go 1tb isnt 9.5 or even 12mm its a whopping 13.5 mm so I guess I won't be putting this in my Envy!

EDIT: I can't find anywhere to justify that the max height an Envy 14 can handle for its hard drive is 9.5mm because I know it is using a hard drive bracket so I'm guessing it can handle thicker than 9.5mm. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I watched a disassembly of a Seagate 2.5" portable hdd and it was a regular sata.

I've done this with a Hitachi drive and it had a board too, but the drive itself was just a regular SATA one plugged into the board. I unplugged the drive from the board, installed it into a laptop, and it worked with no problems.

x2.... I've pulled drives out of portable enclosures a couple times and this was my experience as well.

Not sure why it would have a different interface. Usually it's just a small circuit board with the USB plug and it has a SATA plug on the other end that has power and data to plug in to the drive.
