We do NOT mod SLIC's here - that is illegal. If you have bought windows 7 legitimately there is no need to mod the SLIC table.

Conserning the SLIC mentioned above (and referring my post on page 15), No, I was not planning on doing a SLIC - hack (even the web is full of info conserning that), I got a 100% legit version of 64 bit Win7 Ultimate that does NOT want to install.

I just wanted to know is it possible to mod bios so, that U can change HP's default value of the ACHI/SATA raid settings. Coz no matter what I try, it won't do s&/%..

Dont know if this is the right place to post, but have tried to install a sierra MC8775 wwan module to my HP dm3-1050eo. Problem is that it wont let it boot as its unsupported! (105 unsupported wireless broadband....)
I´ve flashed it with the latest insyde bios (F22A) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-78882-1&lc=da&dlc=da&cc=dk&lang=da&os=4063&product=4040046
What will it take to make it boot with the wwan module?
Is there somekind of whitelist trick?

    Dear thread participants,

Please allow me to salute some of the marvelous work done here by many of you. I also would like to share with you a situation that happened to me which I'm sure you have more knowledge in resolving.

I'm experiencing a problem with my laptop that brought me to this forum after many days of desperate search.

I have an HP dv5 laptop with p8400 @ 2.26 GHz; 4GB of RAM; 64-Bit OS Vista Home Premium.

To my humble knowledge my computer was doing completely fine until one day I see a PC-health window open asking me to repair a few things. So i decided to accept and repair the problems that were shown.

There was no problems except for some Hibernate switch which did not get repaired. I saw some other things in the pc-health window (which i thought were updates and maybe they were) and started clicking one by one and downloading and installing updates to my pc directly from HP.com

Included in the updates were some Nvidia drivers, and a BIOS update f.21 A. After installing everything the computer wanted to reboot to continue installation, which i didn't allow because i had to go to sleep. I made it shutdown completely but not forcefully. I thought when i wake up in the morning i would let it continue its installation. Which I did and the PC just didn't Boot up normally. I had a black screen, keyboard lights were on, cant do anything else.

I read many similar symptoms experienced by many here in the "USB BIOS flash Guide" thread. So i decided to try it and flash my bios to its previous version perhaps it works. After many trials and errors trying to flash it to its same version (f.21) or earlier versions it finally worked and Vista is back. However, the computer is EXTREMELY slow. It felt like it didn't have enough RAM, which I found that it really didn't but it also did. You'll understand more with the following Screen prints:

    http://i49.tinypic.com/2gxp4e9.jpg
    http://i46.tinypic.com/f0525y.jpg
    http://i50.tinypic.com/2s6vrbb.jpg

I tested the RAM and the results came to be OK. System information while the pc is booting up before the OS logo also shows 4GB of RAM.

The version of the BIOS at the moment is F14.

I cant remember where I read that there is a possibility to alter or enhance RAM related matters from the BIOS. However, as you all know, not all the BIOS settings are offered to be changed in the insyde BIOS of HP dv5. There is nothing about RAM in the BIOS settings that can be seen.
I would love to know, if i may, a step by step guide if possible to unlock hidden BIOS settings or how to use EZH2O as Mr. Danny did to make a few BIOS changes.

Your help is very much appreciated.

    Great job guys!
Unfortunately, even in danny s txt file there is no option to disable hyperthreading :(

At least booting from EFI seems possible with those tools!

My notebook:HP Pavilion DV6 2090eo InsydeH2o BIOS f15. just a handful of options in the BIOS... really annoying.

Annyone with ideas how to disable hyperthreading please post!

    Thanks!

Correction to previous post my bios is F13.

just can t believe how hp does not provide an option to switch off hyperthreading on i7. There are already 4 physical cores .. no need to devide processing power further in a world where most apps run only one thread..

Until HP provides this option in the BIOS or wherever I would not recommend buying a DV quad system unless you are multitasking like hell and run apps which support more than 4 threads.

So, there are all these text files floating around and all that, where are you extracting them from? the ***.FD files? Also, how are you getting it back to the bios file when you are done editing it? I got myself the EZH20 utility, I can open up the bios file, but I don't see anything int he screen, and nothing anywhere about changing stuff or export/import.

Cant someone throw out a step by step? I'm not worried about blowing the bios, I have the factory recovery disc (for the bios, not the OS).

Thanks, and yes, I searched, I spent the last 5 hours reading threads and there is nothing descriptive, just I did this and I did that.

    Hi All,

I've found method how to unlock Advanced and Power menu in my Insyde BIOS. Just changed FormSets names to 'main' and 'boot' instead of 'Advanced' and 'Power' and they appeared in the BIOS setup. I've used EzH20 to open BIOS and WinHex to mod BIOS directly in memory as BIOS modules are decompressed there.

I have Acer Aspire 3810. BIOS internals is very similar in all Insyde based BIOSes. Do you have any experience with marcan's scripts posted above? I used them to find which bytes must be replaced to unlock menus.

you won't able to, HP is dumbs down their bioses to prevent the customers from accessing the advanced options.
as i read on their forum, basically next time you get a laptop get, a ASUS laptop

i look for a way to mod the bios for days, but I couldn't find one, its is almost hopeless...

    Ok, it's been awhile...

... but I'm brave enough. Just let me know how.

So the entry you referred to was:
One Of [0xf4<1>] 'Primary Video Adaptor'
    Option 'Auto' = 0x0 Flags 0x1 Key 0x0
Option 'Int Graphics (IGD)' = 0x1 Flags 0x0 Key 0x0
Option 'Ext Graphics (PEG)' = 0x2 Flags 0x0 Key 0x0
    End One Of

do you think you could set it for both?
    Option 'Auto' = 0x3 Flags 0x0 Key 0x0
since Int Graphics uses bit 0, and Ext is bit 1, set both and you get 0x3... worth trying?

    @Psudo
have you found any news about it yet?
as far as i am going to do, is buy a gobi2000 card and hopefully make it work.
also, i heard from an HP technician (in a lab in my country) that if the bios\laptop is locked and won't accept the module, only a Certified HP lab can unlock it, since it requires some program which only they have.. (was hoping to nick it.. but i guess it won't happen ;-) )

    Nothing yet, no...
Cant remember if the gobi2000 card is approved by HP, but the price tag is certainly different from the sierra card on e-bay. So it will probably work, but since my HP dm3 issn´t wired with antenna, I sold my card to an dell owner who had no bios lock, and it had internal wirring aswell. Guess im stucked with a PAN bluetooth connection to my HTC phone :(

i actually found a semi-solution for that, but i need your check on the sierra card if you have any info there.
the antenna part can be bought from a ebay seller (i hope it'll fit right) and installed manually according to the parts manual, also, do you know if there are any bios lock on DM3? or something like that? how can we unlock it?
and for what i read on the HP site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01763189&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4115907
WWAN card approved are Gobi so maybe also GObi1000 will work and that costs only 88$ so it's almost half priced, what you think?
if you can also talk to me via Gmail, Msn, it'll save alot of time.
talk to me on acorchia at gmail.com or a_corchia at hotmail.com for msn

Here's a modded F38 BIOS that enable to use the Intel Wifi-Link 5100 AGN card only in your AMD dv5 laptop:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/747181/HP%20Pavilion%20dv5%201005ec%20F.38%20Edited%20Whitelist%20Intel%20Wifi-Link%205100AGN%20By%201234s282.zip

Using This Modded Bios Means The Notebook Can Only Support The Following Cards Now:-

    Intel Wifi-Link 5100 AGN

    Ven ID - 8086
    Dev ID - 4237
    SubSys ID - 12118086

    Flash At Your Own Risk!

It worked perfectly for me on my Pavilion dv5 1005ec (AMD) factory card was Atheros 5007.

maybe its a mix mate, maybe the computer is getting mixed by the settings when you shut off, try turning the computer back on without charger and connect it after it loads up, also try to change your power plan.. maybe it is corrupted or somethin'...

    Hello advan20092,
Would you mind going into more detail as to how you enabled the advanced and power options in the BIOS? I've opened up my bios from HP and there are a couple of bin files in there (363CF13.bin & 3658F13.bin). Am I to open those with EzH20? When I do so, it seems to load. However, I'm not sure how to use WinHex to mod the BIOS after that.

EDIT: I realize it's been a month and advan20092 may not be watching this thread for replies, so if anyone else knows how to do this please help :S

BTW, for all Insyde modders: check out http://thechaw.com/insydecodr - this is a set of scripts for extracting the Setup Utility from Insyde BIOSes. By default, it only works in Linux - to get it to work under Windows, you need to install liblzmadec.dll into C:\Windows\System32 (you can find it in lzma-4.32.7\src\liblzmadec in the attached archive - sources are included too), and make 3 small changes to the scripts:
-In main.py, change "import fsdump" to "import sys, fsdump" and "BIOS()" to "BIOS(sys.argv[1])", and
    -In lzma.py, change "find_library("lzmadec")" to "find_library("liblzmadec.dll").

With this, you can extract SetupUtility with ease, which can then be modded using a hex editor. Remember, the magic number to look for when searching for the form set is "00 03 00 0E 24"; subtract 3 from the offset of this value to find the beginning of the string table. Then, you can use EzH2O v2.1.0.4 to replace the Setup Utility (module GUID: FE3542FE-C1D3-4EF8-657C-8048606FF670) module in the original BIOS (v2.1.0.13 is buggy and will corrupt the resulting BIOS when using "Replace Module" - if you absolutely need to use it, e.g. if v2.1.0.4 doesn't load the BIOS, then avoid the "Replace Module" button and use WinHex instead to replace in memory - and to make it actually believe you modified something, do a logo replace, which doesn't seem to kill the BIOS unconditionally, unlike a module swap). This way, you should be good to go.

    Gábor (.NetRolller 3D)

EDIT: Sorry, forgot the attachment. It's a 7z inside a zip, as the board forbids uploading any archive other than zip (which gives me a file too big to upload). Admins, please enable uploading non-ancient archive formats! Tar.gz, tar.bz2, 7z, rar, just to name a few.

It would be truly nice if someone knows a method to unlock bios options and make it public!

I have an Acer 5740G with an InsydeH2O BIOS that has switchable graphics disabled (it was going to be part of the spec, but it was disabled due to the lack of drivers at launch.) Acer never really cared to enable it after this.

    http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...ep3=Aspire 5740G&OS=722&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_7

Can anyone help me enable it? I plan to sit down on the weekend and see if I can figure out how this whole thing works, but in the meantime, does anyone have the experience and knowledge to do it and/or teach me?
    Thank you!

Hi, When I try to unzip your zip and then the 7z file inside the liblzmadec.dll is 0 bytes in size, I have tried redownloading your file with IE and Firefox with the same results

    Edit.

Never mind I install 7z914.exe beta and it worked

    Hi .NetRolller 3D

Your posts have been very helpfull, I have been able to get to the point of extracting the SetupUtility-mine.pe for my Emachines E525, but I am not sure what to do now. What I would like to do is enable the Advance Menu
Any advice you can give me is much appreciated.
