I have a HP Pavilion dv8 1000. There is an ongoing problem with this model that dates as far back as 2007 that concerns the Wi-Fi light turning itself on and off and back on again at random, making the wireless useless. I have searched the internet and found many forums that address this issue, like I said as far back as 2007, except for, guess who, HP support! However, I did finally get in touch with a "tech" support guy, named Mohammed J., (even out of warranty, mind you) and he told me that there is a new bios update for this model that should address the issue I am experiencing. So I followed his link and downloaded the file. I opened it and clicked on all the install options and got to the "InsydeFlash" utility which gave me an error message, "IHISI does not support current bios!" Does anybody know what in the blue blazes that means???? HP support has not responded with that question, (DUH), so here I am.

I'm afraid it cannot be solved by updating BIOS. It's 100% hardware issue, caused by bad shielding of cables / connctors and static buildup. This issue has been discussed on HP support forum and problem is solved by adding some extra shielding to specific cables and connectors. Follow instructions and pictures from the link below (post 113 and onward) and you should be good.
