I found myself confronted with a problem. A while ago I got a dv6tqe, it didn't work, so I returned it. The replacement, I find, has a dedicated graphics card that doesn't work. Well, I guess I just have to use integrated until the fix it like everyone else, right? Guess again. Integrated doesn't work either. Right out of the box, same problem as my other dv6tqe that I returned. The integrated graphics can't run ANYTHING. I tried Minecraft, which people say gets 20-25 fps with the intel 3000 but I can't even get it to start - I get this error. - Bad video card drivers!
    -----------------------

Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

Again, same issue that I had on my pre-HD screen, pre dynamic switching laptop. So I download a game called Tremulous, using the ancient Quake 3 engine. The integrated graphics card can literally not even handle the startup menu. It lags like hell and then when I go to force quit (too much lag for quit button) the music suddenly stops lagging when the video vanishes. Again, same issue as old laptop. Now if there is any way to tell what the heck is up, please please please help! My driver version is 8.15.10.2291
    i7 @2.2
    8 GB ram
ATI 6770 2GB RAM (But ofc it doesn't turn on)

Seriously! I'll do ANYTHING to get this stupid thing working. I'm so fed up I'm almost about to buy a MAC! Yesterday I literally almost actually hit the buy button for a $2100 MacBookPro with less specs than the dv6tqe just because I know it would actually WORK! Please help... sorry about the venting...

Yeah, but I was having that problem even BEFORE I had a dv6 6100 and anyway people still seem to be able to run openGL with the integrated graphics? AFAIK?

Seriously, all I want is a yes or no answer. OpenGL will or will not run on your INTEGRATED intel 3000.

It works for other people. You may have a messed up Windows installation or your laptop may be a lemon. Have you tried the minimal install?

No... It's right out of the box, just like my other one.... I suppose I'll do the minimal install right now...

OpenGL should run with your Intel HD3000 integrated graphics. The newest AMD GPUs have had some issues with OpenGL.

Wow, two failures right out of the box is pretty sad. Since it is a new machine under warranty, I wouldn't tinker with trying to fix it. Make hp send you a third or fourth system and maybe they'll decide to refund your money so you can buy something else that works right or give you an upgrade to a better system for all of your troubles. Each day that passes is one day less on your warranty and less incentive for hp to rectify it for you. It should be hp's responsibility to remedy issues with their defective products, not the end users.

The clean install didn't help anyway. I get 3 fps max playing Quake 3 xD xD

Time to return again. At this rate I hope I get a working computer before school starts again in Fall!

Man, so sorry to hear about that. Quake3 is old enough that any modern system should run it at full speed and 30+ FPS. Your system specs should shred Quake3, so it's pretty clear hp has done something to screw things up with their poor engineering. I would recommend escalating this with hp instead of trying to fix it. If I were you I would really crank up the pressure on hp to earn their keep or give you your money back, and with time being important to you the chances of having it resolved before school starts again are slim if you don't start that now. You deserve better than what you received for your cash.

I just got my RMA and packed it up in a box. I'm not going to order another one until they fix the openGL issues with the graphics card not activating, and during my chat with the sales agent they are "not aware of any widespread problems with the graphics of the dv6t Quad Edition"
    Thanks for your interest though!

"Quake3 is old enough that any modern system should run it at full speed and 30+ FPS."

My old (gone) 2007 MacBook could play Tremulous (Quake 3 engine) at 120 FPS on highest settings :p My 2008 Dell desktop could hit 400, and back when I had manual switching graphics on my old (BSODing) dv6t I could crash the game at 999+ fps with the 6770m. xD

Smart choice on the RMA, General...

 "not aware of any widespread problems with the graphics of the dv6t Quad Edition" - It seems like that's their standard line whenever there's a problem with one of their products.

HP is never aware of anything until they get pushed into a corner, then they throw their business partners (vendors) under the bus and cast blame at them. If guess if politicians can get away with blatant lies and denial, they think they can, too.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

That "Have a wonderful weekend" totally made me think you were a HP Support Assistant in disguise :p

All the same, you too xD
