Is there any way to have the AMD Radeon control the HDMI interface, manage resolutions and deal with DTS-MA instead of the Intel 3000 doing that work? I guess it's got to be drivers that would change this option, right. Right now in the Catalyst Control Center, I can't even change resolutions and refresh rates or monitor options.

If you guys with Sandy Bridge also have this issue - please let me know either here or PM so I know it's not only me that can't seem to use AMD 6770m directly with HDMI.

..huh...that's the exact opposite of the envy 14 (amd catalyst controls it, intel can't even turn it on)

I mean sure it's different computers and gpus and stuff (and yours is sandybridge) but I'd think they'd let you use the dedicated gpu with the hdmi.

I also have issues when I clone Displays on my DV6. If I use clone displays and have the same image on both at same resolutions and refresh rates, HD video playback jitters and lags, (both at 720p)
and if I use extended desktop, and have the same settings (720p) or change one to be higher there is no lag on the primary display on which I am playing the video. The 5470m my brother has can do this no lag whatsover, and the reason I suspect is that the intel 3000 can't do this properly.

I wish I had your problem, at least I know that the more powerful card is available when I need it. With the intel managing the HDMI, it can be the bottleneck.
You have switchable also? Did you always have CCC control it?

I don't have this problem. Have you tried switching it to "High Performance GPU" in Catalyst Control Center after you plugged in the monitor?

you mean you can control resolutions and refresh rates, manage monitors in CCC? What versions of drivers do you have and how did you get them. I am well aware of the switching feature and would not have made such a trivial mistake. :D

I'm pretty sure it's the way the video is being decoded...
When I play games in either mode, I don't see a difference, but either the Intel is decoding twice for each screen or VLC is...
Any suggestions, I've tried different overlay modes in VLC...

I am thinking of connecting my 26in LCD TV (Sony) to my dv6 with HDMI. But I am not sure what cable should I buy. Is the HDMI on dv6 v1.3 or v1.4 ? What version HDMI cable are you using ? If it is v1.4, then is it backward compatible with v1.3 as I don't think there is v1.4 HDMI on my TV (It is 3 yrs old and so most probably it is v1.3) ?

Btw, I was suspecting that the HDMI is controlled by Intel HD 3000 after getting my dv6 as there was no AMD HDMI Audio listed under Playback Devices is Sound Control Panel (In my friend's Probook with Radeon HD 530v, there is a ATI HDMI Audio listed under Playback Devices).
Also, in the dv6, in Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers, there is Intel(R) Display Audio (which I guess is for HDMI Audio) and no AMD Display Audio.

yeah. CCC always controlled it (and the initial CCC drivers have some amd hdmi drivers/hdmi audio drivers built in to them)

    so *shrugs*

I notice it when playing videos a lot but not sure if it affects gaming...

So gaming is not affected, it's only VLC that has this issue, checked a file with WMP...
Wait for an update I guess. I tried enabling and disabling video acceleration but that didn't have any effect.

    Any update on this?

I had hoped to use the blu-ray player from time to time as I don't have one for my tv right now. I'd rather the 6770M control the HDMI.
