    Hi

Im an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 user with a dv9565 (2ghz) and getting some pretty high temps - see the post below:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=209182

could anyone with a Core 2 Duo and Geforce 8x00M please post your temps here so we can see what the difference is between the two systems?

Also if you could mention how much your cooling fan comes on, how often the cpu clocks up that would be great.

    Cheers!

C2D temps would be lower, my 2ghz is running at 20C idle and goes up to 55-62C under load

20c idle?! is that undervolted or do you live in a freezer?

Im using a laptop cooler but it mostly just cools the HD and RAM as they blow directly into the vents. Also i just had a clean install and optimized everything for performance. Heres my core temps:

41 idle after about 15mins from booting up

right now its 50 on firefox with 6tabs open while playing music and chatting

the cores reach up to 68c while gaming according to HWmonitor

    20ºC idle is not possible.

I have a C2D 2Ghz and idle (web browsing, office) works at 45-50º. In full load (chess engine using 100% of the 2 cores) it rises to 65-70º.

Dies at 100ºC, so don't be afraid.

20c idle? not bad even if it is underclocked! My TL-60 is 45-48 idle at 800mhz!!

    Flipfire

41 idle and 50 whilst chatting, music ect is good - mine whilst writing this whilst playing music and browsing is up to 57c even hits 62c!!!

Whilst playing a game mine hits 70c but it it 77c whilst doing a virus scan! Nieither of these use 100% of the cores so I dont know!

    Keep posting!!!

You should put Arctic Silver thermal paste on your processor, it helps dissipate heat throught heat transfer. I plan to do if after my warranty expires. Apparently its the best way to easily cool off like 5c off your cores

Theres a cooling guide somewhere in this section, you should look for it.

Expanding on dv9565_AMD's question, I'd like to know if dv6500/dv9500 and newer C2D users with (and maybe without) GeForce 8x00's are seeing MUCH higher temps while on wall power than on battery. The older dv6000/dv9000's aren't seeing this problem AFAIK. I have a dv9000z and it stays cool, I rarely notice the fan. HWMonitor is my current favorite temperature monitoring app.

What or which program is everyone using to get the temps:

    HWmonitor shows 46/58
    Speed fan shows 28/40

Then I get different temps on battery vs ac power.

    DV9612ca here, turion x2 tl-58 1.9ghz

right now, browsing internet for 15min, my temps are 45c, dont ear the fan, i can start earing the fan a little when the temps reach 58c

when using pcmark04, the highest point the temps reach is 62c, as soon the pcmark04 done, the temps drop fast to 52c

    graphic card is nvidia 7150
Most of the problem seems to come from those laptop using a faster video card. No matter if Intel or AMD

I think the video card has little to do with it. I have an 8400m GS the intel users all have 8600m GS - that should be hotter but its not. I think its an AMD or Intel issue...

Is there anyway to measure/benchmark the voltages properly with other people? It might have something to do with running it on battery or A/C

I noticed on both my laptops (old dv2000 and new dv2500) that its cooler on battery than AC adapter, i believed it was cause of the power settings on battery made the processor ran less to conserve more battery thus giving you lower temps.

CPU-z shows my voltage is around .900-1.275v on idle AC plugged in

edit: Also a little off topic. CPU-Z says my ram is only running 333mhz, is this correct? im still on standard 2gb waiting for my 2x2gb 667 to arrive

temps will vary significantly depending on the monitor you use (ie. speedfan vs. hwmonitor). charging your battery during use will also increase the overall heat of the system by a few degrees.

my idle temps are around 38 degrees Celsius and around 54 with load (google earth, music playing, chatting, websurfing and wordprocessing all at once).

    i have a dv9500t with a core 2 dual 2.00, and a 8600m gs...

idle for 10min after running 3dmark06 about 15min ago...
    core #1: 39 - 42
    core #2: 39
    GPU: 49 - 52
(it will go up to about 42 then the fans kick on and it goes back down)

over clocking unreal tournament 3 for about a hour...
    core #1: 63
    core #2: 71
    GPU (graphics card): 71

i over clock my GPU so it runs a quite a bit hotter, which makes everything else hotter. Is 71 getting to hot?

Bustanut - I think 71c will be fine for your GPU - my 8400M GS hits 69-70 just doing desktop work (areo so 3D i dont know?) should be fine.

It seems just by having a quick look over your posted temps that the Intel Core 2 duo users have temps about 6-8c lower than the TL-60 ie, 39-42 idle as opposed to 45-48c of the AMD.

It is the load temps that seem more dramatic - on load of 54c using google earth, chatting, word ect is low compared to my TL-60 - i would be anywhere between 48-63!! however only 48c at the moment, only been switched on a few moments...

I know I have a different lappy here (Compaq nw8440), but my Core Duo (NOT Core 2 Duo) T2600 2.16GHz is currently at 44.8C, idling on battery. On AC power it tends to idle around 53C, give or take 3 or 4 degrees. I have had it shoot as high as 80 before under intense loads.
