When installing the driver from the dv3t latest driver thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=405785) my computer refused to start up. I had to system restore to start up again.

I want to get this driver because of the performance advantage it states, or at least find out if there is an advantage.

what could the problem be? could it be that my HDD is not supported?

from where? the computer wouldn't start in normal mode and the start up repair could not automatically fix the problem

*EDIT* when I was trying to create a restore point, system restore cant find the C: drive or D: drive. Could this be related to the storage manager?

*EDIT* nvm, it just took a good 5 minutes to find the disks... why would it take so long to locate the drives tho? I've created a few points before, never took a while to load up tho...

go to the bios and switch your disk mode from IRRT to AHCI or vice versa

if it doesnt work turn off sata native mode inside bios, then restart. if it works, install the correct intel matrix storage manager and then go back to the bios setup and turn on sata native mode.

The BIOS for my HP leaves very little options for change; basically boot order, fan always on, language, button sound, and C6 sleep. Everything else is just a diagnostic (like memory check and HDD check)

Im thinking it might be due to not being able to update the chipset drivers using the overall parameter; but I have very little knowledge in using cmd to flag setups. If only HP bios wasn't so limited either...

You should report this issue in the driver thread if it happens again next time. :D

If you can, try updating the Intel chipset drivers, even if it's without the -overall parameter. The -overall parameter just more completely updates all Intel-based components, which is why it's recommended.

    Alright thanks for your help.
    *EDIT*nvm, sorry I didn't read it properly lol*EDIT*

Btw, I have updated the chipset drivers, using the thread linked in the initial post. But im thinking its due to the overall parameter thats really not allowing me to update the driver, since not all components might have been updated.

Also I have installed the storage manager and decided to not restart the computer; to my knowledge the computer function fine. Then when I selected the storage manager from the programs list, it would say plug in failed and no drivers found. Could it be the HDD driver firmware?(its a WD 3200BEKT btw)

    Thanks again.

Unfortunately using the overall parameter with the chipset driver does not fix the problem still. Could there be another way to switch to AHCI by another means then just the bios?
