Hi Everyone,
HP recently added the QX9300 CPU to the list of processors for the HDX18T Notebook. My question is, will HP Include the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility with the notebook? The Intel XTU will allow you to overclock the QX9300 Extreme processor... it would be stupid to pay so much money for the cpu without being able to overclock it... Intel claims that the utility will ship with OEM systems?
Does anyone know?

When it comes to notebooks, HP is allergic to overclocking. But doesn't mind selling "crippled" extreme CPUs though.
-
Well, if the utility is distrubuted to OEM partners by Intel, then surely they should include it with the Extreme processors, because it will greatly improve the performance...

A bit more to it than that. You need two more things to be able to overclock. Both of which HP notebooks don't have.
1. An unlocked PLL chip.
2. BIOS support. -
As far as I understand it, the Utility works on its own, it doesn't have anything to do with the PLL chip. Talking about PLL chip, will getting the PLL Chip Model number help to overclock? with a tool like setfsb?

Ahh ok, that makes sence.
I don't see why HP would include the QX9300 processor if they aren't including the overcloking benefits that come with it. Why pay $1000 for something you can use to the max... so stupid... -

Who was it that said "Research before making these statements"? -
Has anybody tried contacting HP asking if they could install XTU for you?

None of the major "mass produced" ODMs (HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.) officially support overclocking due to warranty reasons. They all lock their CPUs and even if you (or anyone including them) install XTU, it won't work since the clocks and multipliers are locked.
