How good is Itel x3100 card for running Vista Ultimate edition, or you have to have nvidia or something. I am considreing x3100, because that is supposed to give better battery life, but I want to make sure that its capable of running Vista Ultimate features.

Simple question. Do you play games or do any 3d rendering as in write code for 3d games?
If you do then get a notebook with a dedicated graphics card.
If not the x3100 is more than enough. I dont do either of the above on a PC, so my GMA950 runs Vista Aero just fine. Aero is not that intensive....and dont belive any hype that says it is. It needs DX9 with 2.0 shaders.
I can run a Microsoft HD video and do the whole windows-tab key 3D flip and the video never stuters while I am flipping all in Aero Glass...all on my GMA950 -
I don't play 3d games much, So, intel card should be enough for running vista ultimate special features.
-
Also, how much batteyr life one can expect from intel and nvidia cards, e.g. if I get 3 hrs on intel card how much can I expect on nvidia while doing same tasks (not much gaming, just for office work and music)
-
Usually the dedicated graphics will use more power and cut battery life by around 1/4
(so if you get 3hrs with intel you get around 2.25 hrs with the nvidia)
But it depends on the notebook. -
Which Nvidia are you talking about?
-
nvidia 8400

The x3100 will run Vista fine. There aren't really any special features in Ultimate that stresses the video card, quite frankly there aren't many special features period. Like Lindy said, if you are going to use the laptop for anything 3D, I would highly recommend getting a dedicated option.
The 8400m GS is a great option if you do light gaming since it isn't heavy on the battery. -
Whats so much ultimate about vista ultimate, is it even worth extra $$$ or should I just get home premium version.
-
with ultimate you get Aero I personally don't think it is worth it -
All versions of Vista come with Aero minus the Home Basic
