I have two HP Pavilions that have different problems. Since these are both Pavilions only a few years apart, I was wondering if I can harvest one to fix the other. I tried googling these two computers, but all that tells me is that they have interchangable battery chargers and, perhaps, external drives, neither of which helps me.

My understanding of the respective problems is:

HP Pavilion zt3000 has and keys pulled off keyboard, bad screen inverter, bad battery.
HP Pavilion dv1000 has bad internal hard drive.

It seems like the simplest fix would be to swap the internal hard drives if they are interchangeable. But I know nothing about computers, so I'd like to know if that's even possible before I go researching how to take these apart.

    Thanks

    Ken

Welcome to NBR you will find alot of knowledge and info here.

First I know nothing about these lappys in specific terms. But the drives should be interchangeble with minimal effort about 5 mins and done. You said nothing about os's which could be a prob. if you have the install disks or image from the computer you are installing the drive into then a clean install would work. or because both are pavilions try booting the new drive first if no errors you are good to go.
hope this helps. some pavilions have an adapter on the drive itself that people overlook and think the drives are not compatible because of this look closely at the connecter on the drive itself as it is removable

It wouldn't be a bad idea to locate and peruse HP's service and maitenance manuals for both notebooks. I am thinking that the dv1000 might use a sata interface. It would suck if the zt3000 used an IDE. But I honestly do not know. So, IMO, it would definitely be worth alittle research.

Even so, a new 2.5" sata notebook HDD is not all that expensive on eBay. If the PC is good, you may as well make the investment, if you are intending to use it for some time.
