Internal wireless card....

i know there are some old threads and discussion on putting in an internal wireless card plus the issue of if the antenna was there or not. How do i find out what internal cards are accept in the whitelist of the BIOS?

 

What type of computer? The notebooks I've seen within the past year or so, all have slots on the system board for a wireless card. The antenna cords are usually routed up around the LCD kit. The notebooks I have experience with, even if there is no w/nic with the system, the cords are there but just taped down.

When I was trying to put a wireless card in my zv6000, a guy from HP told me that once configured without it, the laptop does not have an antenna in the back of the LCD display. So I went with a PCMCIA card and it works just fine.

 

that link of the HP manual doesnt tell me which miniPCI wireless cards i could use, it just tells me how to remove it. anyway i already have that manual

 

No body will tell you the list, IMO. Contact HP and see what they will recommend you; they might well tell you that there is no antenna and the internal card will have even worse perforamce than a usb device or pcmcia card

 

From my experience, almost all wireless nics will work with the units. The question would be if you want North American, ROW (Rest of World), or MOW (I have forgotten what this stands for atm).

As far as the antenna not being installed within your notebook, I can ask around, the notebooks I have experience with, do have them installed with or without the w/nic already installed.

 

ok i got it. at the beginning of that service manual it shows some parts and the part numbers and on the mini-pci wireless card it shows:

F4640-60977 or #319468-002.

i searched ebay and found 2. BUT they are 802.11B cards. and im pretty sure my laptop has the antennas. i see some gray wires where card is placed.

Hm, Priscilla seems to be instructed to give PCMCIA cards first and only upon pressure give internal wireless cards..
Several people here have reported that they have received new laptops with faulty WiFI cards and HP preferred to change the whole laptop instread of the card. It seems HP has a short supply of WiFi cards for replacement and probably this was why the HP representatives here (and in my case) offered PCMCIA cards.
There was no way I could get a mini PCI card here but good for you. I hope it works.

 

didnt you like it when she was telling me i cant stick a pcmcia card inside the laptop(internally)?

also the part number she gave me for the mini pci 802.11b/g, when i enter that in the parts search at HP it comes up saying its a 802.11B with transfer rates up to 11mbps. so she is wrong i guess......again.

 

There are other part #s for those cards. And I don't believe they'd replace the whole laptop for the card, unless it took far too long to recieve the part.
I replaced one today.

 

ok when i go to HP support website and look up my laptop for drivers i get this:

so im assuming it would be safe to install one of the 3 above and it would work

 

im guys and gals, i got a new HP Pavilion dv5094EA, two weeks ago and im having problems with the wireless network card, i dont know alot about computers so pleas try to keep it simple. i got the computer and i cant get the wifi to work, it will work on simple set up with no secure set up but not with WPA set up, when i plug in a external belkin wifi card i can get this to work with out any problem with WPA set up, but i would like to use the built in card cause the belkin one is my G/Fs. the built in one is a Broadcom 802.11g card. the router is a belkin one that also used with two desktops, my g/f laptop and a PDA with out any problems, like i say when i add the external belkin wifi card that also works. so where am i going wrong?? spent 2 hour on phone to HP and still they could not solve it, kept blaming the router!!!
