Hi guys,
I saw a dv6500t in Amazon.com with all the things that i wish, but it have a 200Gb 4200rpm SATA drive.
How bad is this drive, in terms of performance, comparing with the 160Gb 5400rpm ?
Regards,

4200 rpm stinks and is seriously abysmal. I have one and not only is it 4200, its pata and it's VERY slow. As soon as I get the money ( just bought an engagement ring for my princess  ) I'm going to get a new HDD.

4200rpm will be painfully slow for anything but word processing and web surfing.
5400rpm will be much much better. The 7200rpm is actually a huge improvement and barely uses up additional battery power. -
So my feeling about the 4200rpm was correct...it is a pain in a...
I was thinking why HP didn't put 7200rpm drivers in those new line. -
Cost cutting. Hdd's are easily replaced and some people don't need the fast drives to it make the notebook more attractive to cost conscious buyers.

I have a SATA 4200rpm drive and I HATE IT! It's very slow even though its SATA. Avoid it like the plague.

I have a 100GB 4200rpm PATA and I am happy with it. I do some video editing and used to do a bit of gaming on my notebook before I got a desktop. I was happy with it. Not the fastest of course, but it gets the job done.

The 4200 sata drive really sucks bad -
yukstin, im sure u meant plague not plaque lol
dont go for the 4200rpm drive it is very slow, i have had them on older laptops and they really slow the performance of what couldve been fast machines back then.
the 5400 is more than enuff speed for the average person. -
In performance wise a 4200 RPM Hardrive will be your biggest bottleneck if you are a poweruser and have or plan to tweak out your laptop.

I have this very drive in my dv6000t. The drive speed hasn't caused me any problems but I love the capacity of the drive. I use my notebook as a dvr mostly and I make good use of the entire 200Gb.

Brush your teeth regularly!
4200rpm drives can't all be lumped into one category. If you put this current-generation 200GB 4200RPM hard drive into one of your older laptops, it'd feel like an upgrade to a 5400RPM drive. It's not going to top a recent generation 5400RPM hard drive in performance obviously, but it's not a slug like from the 40GB 4200RPM days.
HP compromised on the RPM for greater capacity. I'd rather give up the 40GB and go with a 160GB 5400RPM. Personally, I went with 80GB since that is the largest 5400RPM single-platter drive currently (single platter = cooler and quieter). But if you require maximum capacity without having to rely on external drives, 4200RPM has always been on the forefront for sheer capacity. -
my 4200 hard drive is slow
but it sounds like the 5400 is much better, tho never experience it before.
Is 200Gb 4200rpm SATA a nightmare ?
