    I just ordered a HP Pavilion 4610us over the Dell Inspiron 1100. Who has higher relibility rating. They have the same specs and are around the same price, but the HP was cheaper. Did I make the right decision.

    I agree with Brian. In my opinion Dell is as good as HP if you get the extended warrenties that Dell offers. Some of us can't afford to add longer warrenties just to cover hardware issues that really shouldn't occur in the first place. Budget computers are the best example of this. The extended service plans can put some of these laptops outside of our budgets. I picked a HP for the reason I stated above (and they were a little cheaper).

    HP zd7000 :: 17" WVA WXGA+ (1440 x 900) :: P4 3.06 GHz with HT :: 512MB DDR :: 64MB GeForce FX Go5600 :: 54G Wireless :: 60GB 5400 RPM HD :: XP Pro

    HP has many good notebooks, the model you reference (4601us I think)is quite popular. For a budget notebook it hard to go wrong here. Dell has good service ratings, but they've also had a lot of hardware issues of late. I think you'll be fine...

    Thanx for the advice. I really don't have the money for an extended warranty and I just figured the HP would be the best choice. I'm a newbie when it come to laptops. This is going to be my first one. I really hope I made the right decision.[ :eek:)]

    My Budget was under $1,000. And I wanted a notebook that could play some games, browse the web, and watch some movies. Something dependable ,but not to expensive.

    I have been sorely disappointed with almost every Dell I have had my hands on. I have yet to be disappointed by any HP product I have purchased. But that is just my opinion, there are many others who have had different experiences.

    if it was between the inspirons and pavilions i'd pick hp. but if it was between the xps and pavilion i'd go with dell. but you do get more with an hp.. i've dealt with hp techs and dell techs with the same issues (vista update for my pc and laptop)and dell seems to know what they are talking about

    The OP is asking his question in this forum, I think he will get a biased answer.

    I suspect he might, but like I said, I have used both and I am expressing only my viewpoint. I work with a guy who has had the same Dell for 7 years, with no problems. However, I had a Dell notebook where the quality was nowhere near as nice as the build of my HP, and my Dell desktop is a joke. All you need to do is search my name and Dell and you will find a few posts where I detail my experiences with the rigs and the BS warranty department not honoring their warranty. However, here again, it is just my experience and it has been very, very negative.

    I've used a variety of Dell and HP's... IMHO While the business class HP's are better than Dell's, I tend to favor Dell's consumer class ones over HP.

    Either way, don't sweat it. Both companies make good systems, so questions like this is a little bit like asking "I bought a Honda Civic instead of a Toyota Corolla...". I'm sure people could come up with dozens of reasons the Civic beats the Corolla and vice versa, all of which true. But it is mostly just a matter of opinion.

    In the end, it would come down to price. If you find out that one might have been cheaper, well, then thats just a learning experience.

    So enjoy your new laptop and don't look back. Life is too short for buyer's regret.
