Here in UK the best prices i can find is £740 for dv7 vs £890 for the hdx16. (Both P8400, GeForce 9600GT, 4mb RAM, 320gb 5400). Would greatly appreciate some help. Pretty please...
In a nutshell - is the HDX worth the extra £150? From what I understand, the only real difference is the screen quality (and about 100g weight). Am I missing something?
Has anyone used both that could answer these practical questions?
1) Is there any difference in the battery life of both?
2) Is gaming acceptable on HDX (all other specs being equal)? I read in the forum that high res can make gaming slower. I'm looking to play games like Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead. Does anyone have experience?
3) I heard some comments about dv7 heat issues. In your practical experience does the hdx run substantially cooler?
4) Another thread suggested the HDX was a multimedia machine while dv7 is for everyday use. I want to use it everyday - is HDX strong enough to take a daily pounding?
Many thanks for any wisdom you clever people could share with a hopeless noob![]()

Only if you would prefer a FullHD resolution and a different chassis colour and you are not too much into gaming. But not worth IMHO. Of course lower the native res, better it is for gaming as the 128-bit 9600M GT will definitely struggle at resolutions higher than 1280*800 or 1440*900(with highest detail settings).Actually the dv7 should run somewhat cooler because its bigger than the HDX16t...HDX16 is more of a multimedia machine because of its screen resolution.

Thanks a lot for the reply p1990, much appreciated.
Of course i love the screen on the HDX but I am into gaming, hence my dilemma. Has anyone tried playing games on HDX by reducing resolution? Is it noticably worse than a dv5 on native res? It's better to game on high settings on a lower res screen than medium settings on a high res screen right?
Interesting point about the heat. Does anyone have direct experience of heat comparison between dv7 and HDX? some of the dv7 temps on other threads looked real high, got me a little nervous...
Thanks again for taking the time to help out. Great forum!
Is HDX worth an extra £150 over dv7?
