I must admit that I dont know much about laptop & stuff but still have to buy one for work. So here is a hell lot of question I have:

I saw dv1170 and really like it, except that it seem to have slow 100Gb HDD (4200rpm??) & PC2100 DDR. Can anybody suggest how much will it cost to upgrade to HDD 5400rpm speed & 512 MB PC2700?

With around $1300 or less, do I have a good option for usual application & some light work on Photoshop & AutoCad (2d)?? (Other than dv1170??)

    Thanx!

The hard drive you can upgrade, the memory you are stuck with. Maybe you want to wait since HP will be upgrading th dv1000 to the Sonoma Pentium M. Maybe they'll upgrade the memory as well. I'd look at the Fujitsu s7010 over at NewEgg. You'll have to upgrade the memory and hard drive. hang onto the old hard drive since Fujitsu tends to be picky about upgrades. You can throw it back in if you need to send it in.

Thanks! I'm checking Toshiba M45-S331 too, it has P sonoma and huge Ram & HDD. What I'm not sure is why this is so cheap? $1300!
