hi guys, i just got this DV2700TV which came with HDMI port and i noticed that the S/PDIF (optical audio) is missing fom the right headphone port and i am wondering if this is how the HDMI laptops come or was there some mistake in manufacture.

this is important cos my receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs and when i do a passthrough from the optical output on my tv, it only outputs stereo and can't seem to support any of the surround sound versions.

No mistake that is how it comes. Unfortunately there is no easy solution unless you want to purchase the HP QuickDock attachment, it has the S/PDIF output connection.

aww that sucks as it basically cripples blu-ray or HD content playback from the laptop. is there any other workaround apart from the quickdock?

    what you thinking?

Other workarounds would include HDMI output adapters to other formats but that would be more expensive than the QuickDock.

We will have to see what "Infamous22" Hmmm is all about. I know he will repspond he can't help himself ;)

The S/PDIF output on the 2nd Headphone Jack issue has been discussed at length in other threads on various HP laptops. You might try a Google search.

The Operating Manuals for certain HP Notebooks indicate, with an asterisk, (including mine) that S/PDIF is available on the 2nd headphone jack on "select models only". I blieve that once HDMI was incorporated, the S/PDIF was elimininated. It would be informative if anyone has a S/PDIF 2nd headphone output on an HDMI configured HP laptop, I have not heard of any.

so your laptop is a dv2700t with HDMI output and it has the S/PDIF output in the right headphone jack?

p.s: i am not talking about the output jack on the quickdock, i mean on the laptop itself?

Yes, but do you have an HDMI output and an S/PDIF output on your 2nd headphone jack as well?

I still havent tried out the apparent SPDIF jack. As far as i know the jack on the right is can be used as SPDIF or a 2nd headphone jack.

I just posted that screenshot to compare with yours.

Have you tried updating your drivers anyway?
