I believe so, a lot of 6500t users have reported that the new 6500ts still have this issue. It's the processor's problem, nothing you can do about it, other than to reduce the noises slightly.

I have had the DV6565US for 12 days now and its been very quiet. At night all I can hear are the crickets outside. I thought maybe my fan was broke but it does go on now and then and the temp never goes over 65c. I have the 200 gb Toshiba drive in mine. The processor is the 1.5 ghz Intel C2D version.

Are you guys talking about whistling like a microtransformer for the gas-tubes of the LCD-screen? Yes, when I bought mine first dv9000 off compusa I was really annoyed with this and brought it back to compusa and they just looked at me like I am sick....But after talk with them they agreed when I turned it on in a silent room...They have replaced it with another one. I was more lucky and the whistling noise was not that much on it. Now I have got dv9500 and there is no such noise at all and I am really happy...
You can't really work on the machine in the midnight when everything is turned off around with that noise...
By the way, I have purchased another dv9000 for my friend recently and there were no such noise at all.

After several months of using my system, I found that switching from High Performance to the Power Saving mode (whether it's plugged in or not) works the best in reducing the level of noise...really quiet...lol

I just found the "whine". My new HP Pavillion DV6565US was silent using power cord (which is how I used it much of past week). I put unit on battery and the consistent whine/hiss/squeal thing was quite evident. I know other brands have had this issue as well but I have taken back the HP and will wait until this gets fixed. Seems the new MacBook Pros might be fixed. I know they call this sound "cpu whine" but I bet it's more a mobo issue (most laptop makers get their mobos from Quanta Computer) since some people have it and some don't (and with same model). I also noticed when I turned lappy on after it had been in sleep mode for a few hours the cpu was running at 65C. Not unduly hot for basic usage but it seems high for sleep mode. I don't have confidence in the electrical aspects of this board and the C2D power regulation. I already had JVC camcorder issues with faulty sensors and of course the famous mobo capacitor issues. All forums are dull of this "whine" issue and its not uniform to make or model and its not just an aspect of the C2D specifically. HP has posted a "fix" ( a "rig" really) but it apparently makes battery power go faster and make fans run more. So - I took unit back to Circuit City since it was final day for return. The waved the re-stock fee. I printed out the HP pages addressing the issue.

All this talk about high pitched noises just made me realize my current notebook, a Compaq Armada 110, is quite loud! In the 6 years I've been using it, I've never realized it. I guess you get used to it.

I can't wait to get my new notebook.

The noise itself isn't that bad unless the room is quiet. What I didn't like was that my unit would be at 65c coming from sleep mode - and I could get faster Super Pi results on battery than on cord (being plugged in got me 2x as long on Super Pi - weird). Since some units have "issues" and some don't I would just as soon have one that doesn't. Buggered mobos just get worse and I think this is mobo issue. I like the HP's and its probably Quanta having the issues. Check your temps and electrical performance before exchange period is up when you get your lappy.

yeah, the noise is only very noticeable when your room or office is really quiet. Or your hearing is above average people...haha...
So go find a *thing* that makes louder noise than your notebook does, and put it right next to ya, you will never notice anything from your notebook.

My personal recommendation: Humidifier (any brand)

You can use free programs like Everest or PC Wizard 2007:

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/PC-Wizard-Release.shtml

That will tell you the temps of your cpu and drives etc. Check temps when on battery and cord. Check them at high stress and upon waking from sleep mode. Check them at full power and power saving mode. I have heard of notebooks not waking up from sleep mode and I could guess why when mine was at 65C (150 F) after a night of "sleep mode". PC Wizard will show you what each core is doing and how the load is shifting. If you have a 2.0 ghz cpu it will be running at half that if your in "power save" mode. PC Wizard will also tell you things like who made your display and mobo etc.
