I've been waiting for HP to make the dm1 netbook available in the U.S., but its close cousin (HP Mini 311) is all that I see on their website. I know they're close, but I was wanting a better processor than the Atom 270 and heard the celeron CULV was preferable. Just not available to U.S. buyers. Anyone know if this is just definitely not going to happen over here?

No one has any knowledge on the subject? Not even a strong rumor from a usually reliable source?

if it is coming here it is not going to be here till some time after the first quarter of next year. I figure their reason for delaying it is that it would cannibalize sales on the mini 311, which is probably cheaper due to the atom CPU. we may never even see the dm1 over here, its really a big unknown at this point, but what I can tell you for sure is that if it does go on sale in NA it won't be any time soon.

What you say makes sense and even more so after the review that was posted here faulting the Mini 311 mainly for HP's poor choice of processor, aka, Atom. So, guess I'll hold off until something comes along that I like. I'd prefer HP or Dell, but the 11z is no winner either.

I doubt HP will make the DM1 available in the U.S. because of the popularity of the Acer's 1410 and 1810 models. Acer has pretty much cornered the market for this size with low pricing... especially the 1410, which, with the SU2300 and the Intel 4500MHD, is a lot of power for $400. HP simply can't compete at that price point.

The problem with HP's letting that market segment go over to Acer, or any other brand, is that once a customer feels comfortable with another brand, or develops customer loyalty, HP loses when the customer buys their next computer and maybe others down the line. I hate to see HP forfeit the game when they could come close in price. I'd pay extra for an HP--to a point, that is.
