Im thinking of buying the nc8430. The configuration Im looking at is the SmartBuy RB554UT for $1.799. It has a 100GB 5400 rpm drive and I would like to have a 7200 rpm drive. When I configure a custom built with the same specifications and a 100 GB 7200 rpm drive the price will be $2,240.
So the question is, is it worth $441 to get a 7200 rpm drive over the 5400 rpm drive??
I was trying to see what a 7200 rpm drive would cost as a replacement part without any luck. Any idea where I can buy a 100 GB 7200 rpm drive that will work with the nc8430?

$441?! Heeeeeeell no!
I think any SATA notebook hard drive would wrok with an nc9430, but I'll let someone else fill you in on that. I'm not 100% sure on the hard drive part. -
Epsecially not when considering you can purchse one afterward for less than half that: Link

newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com are some common places people buy notebook parts. it is much cheaper there.

Just a "head up" on drives and Hp models that use the Mobile Data Protection System.
nw8440 + 100GB 7200rpm Hitachi Travelstar do NOT WORK together. See below link!!!
Please POST your findings on what drives WORK and what drives DON'T within this thread (along with the "COMPLETE" model number of your machine)

As shipped:

Drive being installed/tested:
Seagate Momentus 5400.2 (120gb)
