I was wondering if anyone is going to attend CES from this forum?

It would be nice if someone could take pictures of HP's new ENVY 17 and perhaps other models etc.

Would be interesting aswell, Im mainly interested in the E14/E15 (If that is present/still in production ect.) The video cards in the refresh Im more interested in than the processors. If the 6000 series are just re-named 5000 series than its a bit of a blow on those who waited it out.

Well to be brutally honest with you, the 6000M's HP is going to use will be literal rebadging except some will get the GDDR 5 treatment, but the actual core die is literally unchanged from what you got now. If you aren't interested in Sandy Bridge, this next batch of laptops from HP is pretty much the same as what we got now GPU-wise, except a little faster on the memory bandwidth department.

Also, based on the sale figures, I don't see why HP will ditch the E14 to favor a completely new E15. In fact, the E14 was the response for all the flaws the E15 had.

Just what I was thinking strike, it atleast makes me feel better that the new series is almost the same ha ha. When does the dual-core come out? I heard thats somewhere around February. I wonder what the performance % increase is, because the arrandale's are very strong.

I don't know the benefits of the dual core under Sandy Bridge, maybe at most to implement the new Sandy Bridge IGP. I do know that Sandy Bridge is going to revamp the weak mobile quad core department of things, but Arrandales duals are pretty strong from the get-go so I doubt Intel needs to improve the duals that much for the time being. Think of Sandy Bridge as the mobile quad core enhancer generation.

mmm sounds interesting, is the battery life on the quad's a whole lot better?

For the i7's released during Arrandale, no. They were god awful on battery. Sandy Bridge quads so far seems to keep juice flowing for 5 hours on its IGP mode.

yea thats what Im talking about the SB quads. With battery life like that, hopefully intel is going to boost dual-core battery life alot higher to compensate, otherwise it would be kind of odd.

True, but the boost won't be as dramatic as what the quads are getting. I think it will impress more on the IGP they are showing off.

haha yea it gets confusing I guess IPG is integrated graphics processor. Sounds like the quad-core is having equal or slightly better battery life than the dual-core in some areas.

That is pretty damn exciting personally.

It does, but in real life, Arrandales are still pretty powerful. You won't see amazing changes till Haswell. :p

    Arrandale (2010) -> Sandy Bridge (2011) -> Ivy Bridge (2012) (Sandy Bridge Refresh/ Gen 2) -> Haswell (2013?) -> Rockwell (2014?)

It supposed to be, well here, read it here! see below

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haswell_(microarchitecture)

    22 nm process.
    8 cores by default.
    Entirely new cache design.
    Advanced power saving mechanisms.
    Possible on-package vector coprocessors.
The addition of fused multiply-add (FMA) instructions.
Possibly completely redesigned microarchitecture, like NetBurst was after P6.
The microarchitecture has not been confirmed to be in development.
